Racism is real especially in Germany.same story with my son. Went to a Medical school. He was the only black student. Imagine being discriminated mpaka you can't ask the lectures a Question..
When he left class to where he stayed he was being bullied and threatened . Being called names like you black monkey etc. He almost gave up, he would call me often and very depressed. 😮 I used to encourage him everytime and always pray for him not to give up.
Fast forward he graduated and God blessed him with the best job ever!!!

I heard the same story about a Kenyan doctor who went to study in the same country. He wasn't given a chance to do practicals and they thought he can't make it but at the end they were surprised by the results because the guy was a genius 😅

Finally someone who have spoken up all that is happening in schools and institutions here in Germany. I have faced discrimination and hate so much to a point l really lost it all Just because you are good in school and they could not swallow that a black Person can also be intelligent and be more successful than them .Cheers to all my fellow people in Germany who are trying to make it .God will always be our strength 🙏🏾

I experienced similar racism in my Chemistry class in the USA. The students refused to include me in any group but God provided one nice boy who was willing to work slowly with me. In addition, my professor was very supportive and I ended up with a straight A. Professors believe in our brains not our skin, thank God.

We, Africans speak through our talent, hardwork and sheer excellence. We don't need anyone's validation to achieve our dreams. I am happy that Dr Harun flourished in the midst of all those challeges. When Africa speaks, the world listens. Thank you for your resilience and drive.

Harun, your experience reminds me of a question my father was asked while studying for a Law degree in UK in late 50s early 60s. He was in a restaurant with colleagues and he ordered for chicken. Being Kenyan he ate the chicken and crushed the bones. One looked at him as he crushed the chicken bones. After a while the whiteman asked him " In your country, when you eat chicken bones, what do the dogs eat?" My father looked at him straight in the eye and told him - they eat ice-cream. That was the last time he was asked stupid questions. His answer earned him respect henceforth. Congratulations for your achievements.

I'm so proud of this man.. he's sacrificed a lot to get where he is. This is what most of us in the Diaspora have survived. But medical school is another level of stress. He's worked so hard, yet there are people who will feel entitled to his money.

And when they come to Kenya we treat them like gods. Let’s treat each other better before extending a red carpet to people who don’t think we’re humans!

I can attest to what the gentleman is saying. I am currently doing a PhD in Europe. I therefore, get to work as an assistant, teaching two subjects each year. In my classes, there are local students, and two groups of foreigners. The first group are Italians, Spanish, and Portuguese who are on Erasmus scholarship. The second group of foreigners consist of mostly Africans, Arabs and Indians. When it comes to group work, you can easily guess how my classes form groups 😂😂😂 Bear in mind that I did my masters at the same university 5 years ago and experienced the same. I did all my groupwork mostly with Congolese, Indian and Turkish brothers while locals kept to themselves. But, we don't give a f*, as you can see, am teaching all locals and all foreigners. As a Luhya, I studied my Bsc at Jkuat and did my internships in Mwea. I experienced discrimination at the hand of locals in Mwea and Wanguru when they realized I didn't speak Kikuyu. For me, there is no difference between the descrimination I experienced in Mwea and in Europe. However, I chose not to have a victim mentality. My attitude has always been that we should never derive our self-worth from what others think of us. We should carry our self-worth in our hearts and continue excelling.

I too went to Uni in Germany and did the bridging course (Studien Kolleg). Man, we've come so far. From language course to Studien Kolleg to my Masters. I am so proud of myself. It was a long, stressful road. And let's not skip the structural racism from Professors to fellow students. But all in all... I just pushed through because I knew what I wanted❤️. God bless Dr. HARUN
