Asking for context? Well Captain Spoiler (with limited knowledge) to the rescue.

The baby's father is possessed by some kind of demonic creature called Hym that feeds on his guilt of past sin. Geralt, being a walking encyclopedia of monster killing has explained beforehand to Cerys (the lass) that there are two ways to defeat the demon, one of them is to make the Hym switch to another person with an even deeper guilt, which in this case throwing an infant into a pizza oven.

After the Hym successfully switches to possessing Geralt, Cerys appears from another room with le baby, alive and well as it turns out that there is another hole behind the oven which she uses to immediately grabs the kid out of harm's way.

Geralt's relief of actually not killing an innocent soul makes the Hym comes out of possessing Geralt and manifests into a somewhat physical form, making killing or defeating him using a Witcher's silver sword possible as it's normally intangible.

Additional info: Cerys never communicated the plan to Geralt as his guilt needs to be genuine.

I totally forgot about this mission. I threw the baby in my first gameplay not knowing the outcome, but when I realised then baby was actually ok I felt such an euphoria. This game is a masterpiece

Because you believe you were a monster, only then did the Hym leave Udalryk and tried to latch onto you only to be tricked and destroyed. This was brilliantly done. They actually made you feel real regret. It happened to me too. I had to pause the game and walk around for a bit when I did that for the first time

CD really made us feel like Geralt during this as well. After the "fight" i hugged my brother just by how emotional this was.
