Lyrics:
Back in 39 she was 26
The wife of a soldier tryin' to raise four kids
On rationed out beans and watered down milk
Tryin' to keep 'em all warm with a patchwork quilt
That great depression ended about 1945
But grandma lived to be 92
See, tough times don't last
Tough people do

Tough people pull themselves up by the bootstraps
When they hit hard luck
And they stay strong and they keep on fightin'
Like they don't know how to lose
Tough times don't last
Tough people do

Those talkin' heads on CNN
Say we'll never get out of this hole we're in
Unemployment's up and the market's down
And no one knows what we ought to do now
Well, I'd interrupt that program with a little headline of my own
This just in from the old red, white and blue
Tough times don't last
Tough people do

Tough people pull themselves up by the bootstraps
When they hit hard luck
And they stay strong and they keep on fightin'
Like they don't know how to lose
Tough times don't last
Tough people do

I've been out of work day 35
My bank account's about bone dry
Been lookin' for a job no luck so far
But I bought a little time when I sold my car
Well, I'll go dig a ditch if that's what it takes
Baby, somehow or another we'll get through

Tough times don't last
Tough times don't last
Tough people do
Tough people do

Written for my Mom? This song is perfect. My Mom was born in 1917 in Three Forks Montana on August 13. No hospital, born premature at her home and they put her in the oven portion of a coal and wood stove used as an incubator to keep her alive, yes she was tough. She lived to be 92... She had a tough life in many respects but always with a smile on her face and love in her heart.

I just dedicated this to my 84 year old mom, who is one of the toughest women I know. She has raised me to follow in her footsteps. I am now almost 66, and I'm a pretty tough old bird too. ❤
I Love this song and this man!.❤❤🌹

This song was written by Joel Shewmake and recorded by Trace Adkins.. Considering today's life experiences lately I think this song is very appropriate to our situation.

Cool drink of water to a thirsty woman. Made me think of Charlie. That was like losing a Grampa. He taught me the things my Grampa would have taught me if the war hadn't broken his heart and mind. The world need more Grampas.

#TraceAdkins I always love you and the messages about life many of your songs 🎵 stand for Im 57 have been RN 4 37yrs from East TN. Nurse Angela here. I have to say for first time ever that at one point in song it sounded a little political and despite your vocals and decades of being a fan I dont particularly care for this song first time ever! Guess because I am a hospice, geriatric nurse and this battle with the invisible enemy is taking a toll on us providers no matter how tough we are! Yes, we will get thru, but the seniors are being tossed to the wayside by society in general and the suffering is tremendous on everyone..😐😔 I love and admire the support you give our troops. Thank God for them. We at the bedside, now, as we speak have inadequate PPE. The administration sent the bedside warriors to battle without the proper tools.
