Great summary of an important upcoming event. The most important for the climate there has been.
...and, sadly, I'm not confident that we will see the agreements and actions we need.
Sure there will be lots of pledges and promises of net zero by 2030, or 2045 or 2050, or '60 or whatever...but seeing what these fine leaders are actually doing...where they are actually leading their respective countries? COP Out, as you say, is where they are heading.
At least just about everyone acknowledges the climate problem now, but I see an awful lot of wriggling around trying to avoid having to actually do something.
I really hope I'm wrong...I have been following this since I learned about it in the 70s...it worried me back then, and it's only been getting worse.
There ARE solutions...ways of fixing this, stopping the temperature rise whilst ensuring prosperity for all..but time is running out fast.
This video will be shared. Thanks for caring too.

A quote from King of the Hill comes to mind.

"We live in Texas! It's already 110 degrees in the shade, and if it gets one degree hotter I'm gonna kick your ass!"

We need a bigger, more VOCAL push for cleaner energy! Like nuclear, which would be much better if plants were switched to thorium salt bath reactors, and all new plants were of that kind. So much more efficient, so much less toxic waste, and so much safer!

And while we wait for leaders to step up, we all can make a difference, too!

1) VOTE!! Make sure you vote in every single election, no matter how small, for people who will push for positive change. Push your family and friends to do the same, too!
And

2) vote with your MONEY, too! Buy greener products with less waste (less/no throwaway products! Use towels, not paper towels, for example!), less packaging (like laundry soap sheets that come in flat, recycled & compostable paper packaging, rather than bulky boxes or plastic bottles, for example), from carbon-neutral companies, local companies, etc. Grow some of your own foods, if you can, or buy and eat local foods.

These are the two most important things we can do! Sure, there's hundreds of other things, like shorter showers, not running the water while brushing, using public transportation, and much more. Do those, too, but make SURE you're doing #1 & #2, first and foremost!

The problem is that people got numb to the constant doom and gloom. Many just wanna live their lives and feed their families without paying exorbitant amounts of money for gas, food and so on.
Another important factor is that developing countries will not cut into their own growth out of poverty because richer nations or people tell them to. They dont care about climate conditions in 10 or 20 or 50 years when they can starve next week.
Whats needed is efficient technologies for things like transport and industry and better dialog apart from "were all gonna die". Give people something positiv to strive for.

one counterpoint I've heard is that the amount of electricity needed to be generated to power electric cars may not actually require less fossil fuel usage than traditional petrol-fuelled cars...can anyone substantiate this?

It's too late, we are well past the tipping point, it would take 7 taigas forests to offset.
