Hey so I am a leatherworker. For the most part, I agree with not using leather for the clothing. I think something like a jacket would be fine in addition to the suit, but I wouldnt want to rely on it since it's so hot to wear. However, leather really is the best option for boots. You can *so* easily waterproof a pair of leather boots with something as simple as beeswax, or numerous other bespoke products like SnoSeal. Leather boots take decades to wear down, and the rubber sole (or the thread/glue to attach it) is almost always the first thing that breaks down. To protect leather from water you really just need to air it out after you get changed. If its veg tan that might needs 2 days of airing, but it'll be fine over all.

The leather problem is easily fixable if you shine it with shoe shine every so often. It is literally made to keep out moisture

I think one point that kind of got lost near the end is the cost per suit. Synthetic fibers are great and all, but they're (generally) expensive compared to materials like cotton, linen, or canvas. Not to mention the fact that post-apocalyptic production for them is probably going to be next to nil, making them harder to replace in the long run. I think cotton/linen undergarments makes more sense from the cost perspective than synthetic fibers, but you do lose out on durability doing so.
