Today's essay styled topic looks at the specific color red for the Digimon card game. After reviewing 2.0 and looking at some of the upcoming releases and even newer releases, what are some ways to fix red cards? And what would you like to see Bandai try out? Today's video is packed with some theory crafted keywords along with examples of what exists and what could potentially be good.

I really like the idea of “if X didn’t occur, then Y”. With many cards coming out now that have inherit protection against Digimon effects, cough cough Bugs, colors like Red need to be given another tool if their deletion effects don’t happen. We don’t want a whole color to be a wet noodle if the deck doesn’t have access to Rush.

Honestly just giving Red Collision could help a lot of them to delete thing; and if you're able to give it Piercing, even better

I think turing this into a series could be interesting. So you can go over what issue each color has ( good or bad ). Then go into theroy crafting on how to balance ( bring down or up depending on colors).

I think you've hit the nail on the nail on the head. When the game first started red had the ability to pump itself up to protect itself when swinging while blue had access to jamming which circumvented the DP check. Yet as the games grown Blue's arsenel has expended yet Red's has never grown beyound that. I think having effects which tie into how high the DP is could be interesting. Such if this Digimon's DP is X it can't be blocked or can''t be effected by digimon effects. Likewise that value might not be the orginal DP value. Only activing if it's boosted to certain degree. As always amazing video and could make for a great series if you decide to keep going with it.

Ah my computer nerd side LOVES the firewall flavor for red. Theres so many computer lingo words that should make their way into the game and would fit spectacularly!

I do like the concept of Firewall for red. It does need something really exciting to be relevant. Maybe even something that plays out rookies and gives them rush for the turn.

Firewall: This Digimon is unaffected by Digimon effects of Digimon with less DP

The gallant tree is a great example of whats wrong with red. The increase to your dp deletion effects is great. But the base numbers are so low it just makes them ok when when the inherits should push them to great. Also the lack of flexability in their removal. Should be more pop total dp worth of digimon effects

Im always a fan of theory style videos for digimon. anything that gets the brain gears working for smthn im passionate about is always a good time. I do thing a lingering menace effect from MTG would work best with green being a negative alliance where you need extra bodies to suspend to get 1 attack in, but it being a defensive keyword reminds me of black tho. maybe well get a green black line that uses that and then pierces over.

Agree! I think digi bursting could have stayed reds mechanic and they should continue to get digi burst cards. This would give them the play style of “burning fuel” and would let them justify their agro while losing to sustain/defense decks

I think the main issue with red is that it wants to be aggressive but there are so many protective and reactionary effects that punish that which wouldn't be able issue if it wasn't for the fact that other color's get these effects on top of their other color tribal effects. So my idea is to introduce a keyword that bipases protection as a game mechanic the same way ice clad does

Keyword: DDoS (effects cannot activate until the end of a battle involving this Digimon)

This would allow for red to attack safely into an unaffected Digimon without worrying about protections or interruptive effects (i.e armor purge, proto form, on deletion:) while at the same time balancing it out as it effects both players (base stuff like sec+1 greymon or piercing or your turn+2000 would still work but stuff the like the when attacking effect of x antibody or raid wouldn't) it would also be incorporated as a game mechanic the same way dp- or ice clad is.

I though of the idea of how to counter Ice-clad and rampant deletion effects or protection, something like:
Lava-armor (When this digimon battles a digimon with lower DP, send that Digimon to the trash at the end of battle).

I see that Red now need a new form of deletion and battle prowess.

Me and a friend had an idea for a cycle of colored firewalls kinda like how the scrambles are where you can evo for a reduced cost then they have a delay effect that would say something along the lines of when your digimon would be affected by an opponents digimon effect you can trash this option from the battle area to make it unaffected by that digimon effect

Using the delete effect of Gallantmon as an example I thought the keyword "Breach" could work with the effect of "Delete and oppoent's digimon with equal or less DP as this digimon, if this effect failed to delete any digimon gain X effect" so for some identity Gallant can keep with trash top of security while Wargreymon can get Sec+1.

It would be smart to share these videos with a Digimon TCG contact. This is excellent theory crafting but doesn't go anywhere unless a designer sees it. People could also submit these ideas in the set surveys.

I got my Special Booster 2.0 box today [stock only arrived at my UK store yesterday]

On the negative side; I didn't really hit what I wanted.

On the positive side; Lucemon Satan; Lordknight X; Alt Art Susanoo Ace [Yes; double SEC] and alt art Seraphimon ACE; which combined basically pay for the box. Also a few other various SR's which have a decent but not amazing sell value.

Wonder what kind of new keyword effects they could have in the future? One idea could be a counter effect for whenever another card effect would cause it to leave the field once per turn.

So, I don't know if this effect is good or downright terrible, but I made my own keyword for a red oc deck. <Barrage> (When this card attacks a Digimon, delete all other suspended Digimon on your opponent's field). I might change it to "When this card deletes an opponent's Digimon, delete all suspended Digimon on their field" or something like that.

Im all for giving red their niche back. It needs a new mechanic to make it unique again. What iam dreading is when card effects target the player and not the field, raising or trash. We are currently walking a fine line with all the immunity effects and floodgates that power creep may force the game in that direction.

After giving the video some thought. Red should have a keyword that unlocks permanent buffs to the card if the don’t delete a digimon.
Could call it something like script or encode
Script/encode (if this digimon’s effect does not (in this case) delete it gains the keyword) I guess it could also be a skill on the card as well like an all turns or when attacking or even an extra when digivolve.
So two examples I’m thinking are as follows
[Script/encode]: security attack +1
Or
[script/encode]: [when attacking] trash the opponent’s security
This can really make your opponent to have to choose to commit and also Bandai could and probably make it so that you would get the script/encode anyway
