I used to cross that bridge when I visited my brother in FL. My prayers to the people on the bridge and their families when it collapsed.

I would like to check the maintenance log of the ship. There was a large plume of smoke from the ship before it struck the bridge. If there was a fire that caused a power outage, I wonder when the last time that ship's engine was serviced and if it was serviced correctly. The Boeing jet that lost the door during flight had missing bolts that caused the door to fly off. Fortunately, no one died or got hurt on the plane but it points to some type of maintenance issue.

I've heard politicians talk about our crumbling infrastructure BUT THIS IS RIDICULOUS

I think everyone is in agreement here. Ukraine needs more US funds.

People jumping to their death from WTC is the most horrific images I can remember.

Well it will take about 15 years before a new bridge replaces the ruined one

This happens when common sense regulations and common sense leave the building. The company that owns the ship should be liable instead of pushing the costs onto taxpayers.

Can’t believe that bridge just fell so easily tho. Fell apart within seconds.

Robbie they are called "Harbor Pilots" and technically they are in command until the ship clears the port.

The ship didnt lose power until it was about to hit the bridge. My question is why was the ship in route to hit the pillars??? Even if the ship didnt lose power it would not have had enough time to miss hitting the pillar.

Thank you for the thorough and informed coverage. The most detailed I've seen on YT so far.

To be even more clear, according to a PHD in engineering:

“Only two pylons were completely weight bearing; built in 1977. It only had 2 Dolphins; with 4 Dolphins the bridge would be fine. Dolphins are specific devices that protect bridges from boats hitting them, including massive boats like this one. “

So please don’t tell people this is not part of the infrastructure failure in US to update bridges. A port bridge should not collapse after struck by a boat. That IS anticipated. Ask an engineer about the “Dolphins.”

Will Mayor Pete handle this as well as East Palestine?

The more info that comes out, the more that I’m starting to think this isn’t an accident. Everything about it is bizarre

I just don’t understand how there wasn’t manual steering as an emergency back up. As retired Navy, we have multiple ways to steer the ship including manual. This is especially true in regards to narrow waterways like canals or in and out of ports. It’s a major training situation that needs to be accomplished during basic training phase for a ship to be viable in preparation for deployment.

There should be enough rock around the base of the piers to prevent this from happening. The ship should ground and stop, not contact the bridge.

This is absolutely an infrastructure issue.

This vessel has a VDR (voyage data recorder) that recorded all voice, speed commands, rudder angle, engine RPM's etc. Black Box like and airplane that will have lots of answers as to why this occurred.
