Bloodborne - Rare dialogue from password guard

I've only heard this once. This character was on NG+4 at the time, but I don't know if that matters.

I absolutely love how the prompt once the door is open reads "talk" not "inspect" and how the response simply reads 'Already dead.' What a terrifying game.

The voice acting in this game is phenomenal. Every old hag and crazed neighbour is a delight to listen too.
It carries the game in some sense and lets us imagine about the setting that is yharnam.

In the Japanese descriptions, it is stated that he was one of the two guards who followed Willem into the catacombs. They heard the voice of Ebrietas and went mad, while Willem saw the Rune Eye.
It must have been terrible to live with that fractured mind for all those times, and yet having followed your master's order.

Since the beast and hunter repeat their last actions mindlessly, you can assume "Have to close the..." is referring to "You/I have to close the door" His last thought or command, in order to seal Bergywerth away from those who may have turned from seeking the knowledget there

Basically he was trapped there by duty (hence the crying after suffering for so long meant to guard a gate.) After giving him the password, you broke him free from his curse. FromSoftware are just great when it comes to tragic stories, or implications of said tragic stories. Here's to hoping to another Bloodborne.

On like my 15th+ playthrough I got here and then because I already knew the dialogue I just skipped it so I could tell them the password. But then he said a few extra words and I was like “huh, did he just have new dialogue I haven’t seen before?” Now I know what he was saying.

This guy and the whole chainhust opening cutscene is just so creepy yet amazing at the same time. Fromsoftware just blows my mind. I'm glad this is my first souls game it's amazing and it's age doesn't change a thing.

I got my gf to play this and the first time she talked to him, he did this. She had beaten Amelia and everything but was so creeped out she was like “okay maybe I go somewhere else”

I remember reading somewhere that there’s another “Password Gatekeeper Event” that you can get from having a high amount of Insight (not currently known) in which he speaks about having gotten bitten by a Beast; this being the explanation for him being a skeleton by the time you reach him.

I’m starting to think that this is the exact event, with him crying because he’s recalling a moment he was on the verge of death and fearful of it.

I replayed this game a few months ago and got this dialogue. At the time I was confused and thought that, while I didn't remember it going on for so long, I must have simply misremembered. Interesting to find out it's rare.
