Great repair just recommend bondo bumper not regular body filler as the bumper may flex

33yr collision technician, u got 80% correct, u need a fiberglass mesh during the plastic welding to keep the tear strong. And bondo never goes on plastic . There’s a plastic filler for bumpers. (Bondo will bust on flexible parts).

I tried to do my bumper using plastic welding plus paint would cost me $750. Went online bought a new bumper fully painted $350. 😂

So glad we have a pick and pull junkyard down the road . Got a scratch free front bumper for a 2013 BMW X5 for $40

At my job we use something called Poly-flex, it’s a filler made to be used on plastic bumpers. It’ll flex just like the bumper and will not crack, please do not use normal body filler on bumpers, it will not last.

Use glazing putty instead of more body filler for pin holes. Upol dolphin glaze is self leveling and easy to use

I recommend doing the restructuring on the inside of the bumper.

3m makes a plastic repair material called Ez sand multi purpose repair. You can also get multi purpose plastic repair strips and melt it into your repair with your solder gun instead of thinning out the repair area. After that sand with 80 and 180 grit . The trick with plastic bumpers is to not actually move the sander back and forth fast because the material is much thicker instead stay in one area and move slow staying on the repair area. Then use adhesive promoter then the multi purpose repair material I like to hit it with a heat gun because it self levels and also gets rid of pinholes. With this the bumper can still flex and not crack. Just repaired a b7 Alpina bumper the other day you would never know it had a hole🤙🏻

You can buy parts online and most likely cheaper than what would cost to repair, but one thing you can't buy online is the skills that this guy have, it is more important than you think....

Wet the floor to minimise dust blowing onto your perfectly done repair 👌🏼

I like to reinforce the backs of my repairs with bumper weld, it’s basically a 2 part epoxy that remains slightly flexible. Idk if it’s necessary but it gives me a little peace of mind knowing the repair is definitely stronger than the original plastic.

My biggest tip would be to mask of all the surrounding plastics before you do anything, especially sanding 😂

Biggest tip is detrim to do the repair from behind as well reinforcing with plastic welding rods makes for a strong repair that won’t crack easily. Honestly better than oem

#1 rule while painting your plastic bumpers is if you sand it past the factory primer you need you use a plastic adhesion promoter can get it in a can as well then primer then paint then clear

They make special filler for bumpers. Evercoat poly flex is what I use.
