Critiquing the Weirdest Baseball Fields in America

Baseball fields do not have standard outfield dimensions. In some cases, baseball fields end up in a "run what you brung" situation - where the weirdest things can happen. This video has them all.

Thank you to everyone who submitted a field!

6:25 That's Ralph Earnhardt, father of Dale Earnhardt Sr, sending a guy named Dick Plemmons into the dugout. Lee Petty, father of Richard Petty also found himself in that same dugout during practice for the 1958 race, but repaired his car and finished 4th for the main event. Jim Paschal won the race. The track measured just a quarter mile in length. Absolutely insane little short track.

The one near the bridge is actually pretty cool imagine being a high school baseball player in New York seeing the Brooklyn Bridge when you're at bat that would actually be pretty damn cool

A spiked fence on a baseball field?! What a great idea!!

Haha, bell actually made it!!! My coach used to call the light pole the pole of wisdom and made us run to it and come back then we had to tell him what we did wrong. He even made us run to it before finals! Thanks five point vids

I love that in Baseball, as long as you got the right diamond dimensions, you can do the most nastiest, insane and out of proportion outfield with very little in the way of restrictions

I used to work right next to Cardines Field. Happy to see it here. It's the oldest continuously used baseball field in America. It opened in 1908, 4 years before Fenway

I’ve played as a centerfielder at Limeport before. It’s just as bad as it looks, plus there’s random holes all over the place to trip and fall over. It was a terrible stadium, but the view into the cornfields always made it memorable like Shoeless Joe was going to walk out of there Field of Dreams style

I submitted the Des Moines East field and after seeing some of the previous disasters, I felt honored just to receive an honorable mention.

Of course S1apSh0es knew of one that hosted a race back in the day. Thanks for letting him narrate that one. Good video.

Anyone who’s ever played MLB the show knows about polo grounds. You could smash a 500+ ft pop up to center.

Visited Cardines Field as a member of the opposition about a week ago. Not only are the dugouts on the same side, but the two teams also have to share a bullpen. The Newport team has been around for 20+ years, but apparently the setup hasn't caused any problems.

You know your ballpark is weird when it makes the Polo Grounds look normal by comparison.

For your next iteration of this video, please do center township ballfield in Monaca (mon-ACK-uh), PA. It's home to Penn State Beaver baseball, and it features a 5 foot wide ditch with two open catch basins in play in front of a 25' tall hill in right field that stretches to dead center. Roughly 305' to right, 390' to center, and 340' to left.

0:03 I love how the dude sees the kid get hit, and instead of being concerned, just backs up like he doesn't want the kid to fall on him.

I’ve been waiting for part 2 and this didn’t disappoint. Weird baseball fields like these are so beautifully charming. I recently stopped by Satchel Paige Park while in KC and did some filming - hoping to put together a video of the park and its history.

Hey, thanks for including my alma mater, John Marshall High in L.A. (4:28). Played three seasons on that crazy field 1970-72, and back then the hill didn't have any grass on it, it was just raw nasty dirt. The softball diamond wasn't there, the whole field was pretty primitive. For awhile they had this 12" high line of boards across the hill to mark the home run line. Crazy. And yeah, I did hit that guy's house behind the right field fence - my only high school home run, a 3-run shot against Eagle Rock High. Fond memories. BTW, Marshall had a killer team in 2022...

I don’t think I’ve ever clicked on a notification faster.

5:47 I played at the one in Pigeon Forge about a month ago and it was a great experience but those fields were replicas of minor league fields (and Camden yards). One of the best parts about it is the view of the Smoky mountains while we were playing

There’s a complex of baseball fields in Branson, Missouri that are all based on current or historic MLB parks. It’s very similar to the two examples given here.

Nice to see the Lebanon Cedars made the list. The next time you're looking for weird ballparks, look up Newport High School in Newport, PA. Left center is with the football scoreboard in play.
