Its not about cooling the card at this point, It's about cooling the room you put that card into as it becomes a space heater.

The 4090 is going to be a great card, for youtubers.

The biggest takeaway from this video in my opinion is the fact that they want to burn through existing Ampere stock before launching Lovelace.

I say let it sit. Let prices continue to fall, and Lovelace get delayed until RDNA 3 launches, putting _further_ downward pressure on prices from BOTH companies for cards from this gen AND the next.

Soon, "you attach the computer to the GPU".

If Ampere wasn't so overpriced they wouldn't be sitting on a huge stockpile, people got tired of getting screwed.

Since Steve from GN brought up the issues with Transient power I'm much more worried about the PSUs it need to keep up with it without shutting down or causing weird crashes.

All the renders look REALLY GOOD!!! Give the artist some props, thats some amazing work! :)

can't wait for the rog strix 4090 with a 5.5 slot cooler on it that won't actually fit in a pc without being mashed up against the PSU shroud. Might need to go with a rack mounted PC this generation.

I'm kind of honestly really enthused with the quality of the founders edition cards they honestly went from some of the worst performing joke of a blower cooler car too something that's actually interesting that performs much better than a lot of other cards

It would be cool to see a big event again. I remember the 10 series event when they brought out modding competitions. I think a sli gtx 1080 in an acrylic case won. Now we just get a kitchen an Jensen baking cards.

In my tropical country its impossible to have a 600W GPU. I'm seriously thinking about betting on AMD GPU this generation

I look forward to literally every video you put out, Tom. :D

I wish you'd been doing this a decade ago. :D

You can cool 600watts in 3 slots for sure, but not without being obnoxiously loud at load I think.
This power hike is going to affect a lot of things. Some PSUs just won't be able to hack it, and some cases without excellent airflow are going to get baked.

I think we are overdue for a full redesign of cases and motherboards that puts the GPU somewhere completely different. The current layout no longer makes any sense when cards vent this much heat directly into your other components, draws more wattage than the rest of the system combined, and blocks every other PCI-E slot on your motherboard. It's just stupid design resulting from a standard that was made for an era when GPUs didn't even exist and needing active cooling for an expansion card was unheard of.
If you put the GPU on the back of the board, or at least the very top or bottom - then you can have all the space you need for a sensible and less complex tower-style "blower" cooler in a compartment that can draw direct fresh air and vent out of the system.

The whole world is strugling with power related issues, going from extreme high electricity prices to coping with Co² expultion. And and then those lunatics of Nvidia launch Gpu's with a 500W+ power demand. 😏

So in short, instead of innovating, NVIDIA is just pumping more wattage to sell new cards? WOW

The cooler looks like has a sintered texture to me, like it was made by laser deposition. My read on the next generation cards is that they are taking significant leaps forward in an environment of intense competition, which would lead me to expect them to take on bold redesigns instead of something iterative. But then again, expediency may be the more pressing matter, which would lend itself to using the old cooler. If they are super hot, it makes sense to redesign the cooler from the bottom up. I’m guessing The extra power pins on the 3090ti board could of been there for internal prototyping and testing of 4000 series designs. With final production being it’s own thing.

You have to love the perfect storm of Crypto crashing and Nvidia wanting to launch early (even if it's a paper launch until October) hoping to fleece gamers like they did with the last two generations. The chickens have come home to roost, and I hope RDNA 3 does serious damage to Lovelace (via efficiency and performance) along with excess Ampere stock (new and used) when Lovelace finally launches later this year. Nvidia's "Ultimate Play" my ass!

When cards are taking up 4 slots, why don’t we just add some pcie teeth so that we can get more power from the motherboard through that. also might help with stability and sag

I'm good with my RTX 3080. Its a chunky Asus OC edition and gives me plenty of power. I'll probably sit out the next round.

If AIB's don't move to water cooling for these things, I'll be disappointed. I think water cooling is the only practical way to handle that much heat.
