The most common thing I have to argue with people about when discussing religion is that very fact. So many people will say that "Oh, that was not literal, " but I know people who do believe it is literal. I once asked a Christian who converted later in life, "If the bible is true, then how do you explain the billions of years the earth and the universe have been around?" They told me, "who is to say how long a day was back when God created the universe?"
When I asked my own mother if she believed everything in the bible as a literal fact, she said yes.

How do a group of people that proclaim their “book from god” is the only way to live, then scrub things like slavery, stoning of certain types, killing of other faiths children, etc.
but still say that their book has all the answers?!

Imagine a God who is all powerful and wants to tell people of his existence. How would he do it?

Would he write a book that has had many translations, many different interpretations that is full of misleading language and we still can't verify its validity thousands of years later?

The argument of how to interprete the Bible is pointless because a smart god wouldn't write a Bible that needs to be debated. If the Bible's purpose was to educate humans on his existence he's done a pretty crap job.

He started me on the journey of a lifetime of development, learning, and growth, and I'm hugely grateful for that.
