For years, GUE has taught that oxygen is as narcotic as nitrogen and that oxygen narcosis might be a thing. But a new study by GUE Instructor and researcher Xavier Vrijdag suggests that the narcotic effects of oxygen may not be as severe as previously thought. In this video, we'll explore the latest findings on oxygen narcosis and what they mean for technical divers like you. Don't miss out on this important information!

Good for you for scrutinizing your preferred agency.

I was always under the impression that inert gasses cause narcosis. Never heard of oxygen narcosis before this video.

I really enjoyed the interview and read the paper, but I have a question. Can gas density be a relevant factor for narcosis? In this study, the maximum oxygen depth considered was 18 meters. My point is, would it be possible to compare a dive to 47 meters with EAN 28 (PpO2 = 1.6) to another one with air? Or even EAN 32 at 40 meters? I understand that this way, gas density can be taken into consideration, and maybe find a diferent result?

What GUE is even more conservative?? Interesting discussion, thx for bringing it on the channel.

PADI also teaches that oxygen is as narcotic as nitrogen, so GUE is in good company there ;-)
But seriously: Very interesting interview!
