What is Anterior Cruciate Ligament? - Dr. Yogishwar A V
Показать описание
This is an anterior stabilising structure in the knee joint. Knee joint is formed by 2 bones. One is the thigh bone called the femur and the leg bone called the tibia and the fibula. So to hold these two bones in tact you have a capsule around it, a medial and lateral collateral ligament and to hold it intact you have anterior cruciate and posterior cruciate ligament which will prevent it from gliding forwards or backwards. The role of anterior cruciate ligament is to give anterior stability in the knee. The mechanism of injury in an anterior cruciate ligament tear will be a bending and twisting sort of an injury or when there is a rotational strain acting on, that is when an anterior cruciate ligament fails.
