INSIDE Indonesia's $10.5BN MEGA Sea Wall to Save Jakarta

Indonesia is thinking about building a huge sea wall along the northern coast of Java to protect the island, especially Jakarta, from sinking and being submerged. Jakarta is sinking by up to 25 cm each year because of too much groundwater extraction and urban development.

If the plan goes ahead, the project will include constructing a 120-km coastal and river dike by 2030. By 2040, an adaptive sea wall will be built to the west and east of Jakarta, and by 2050, the sea wall will be closed with a reservoir.

But can this be done?

Why not just pump sewage into the ground water? You would not only prevent people from using ground water PERMANENTLY, saving the city but you could also solve the problem of unmanaged sevage in some locations.

Ok, the dutch have experience building sea dykes, unlike dams the wall only needs to resist storm surges, the sea water levels between Java Sea and Indian Ocean will eventually equalize via the Sunda Strait. ✌️
