The Russian Economy looks surprisingly strong, so we wanted to delve deeper into why this might be the case.

Here are my 2 cents as a Russian who fled this war and watches economic news digests from Russia weekly.
(Sorry for any potential mistakes in my writing)
Here is why the take "Russia is doing fine despite sanctions" is manipulative at best and factually incorrect at worst.

- Sanctions are constantly being bypassed with third party companies from countries like Turkiye, UAE, China, Singapore, Kazakhstan, and others. US are sanctioning those companies too, making it less appealing for them to have ties with Russia. Having sanctions in place is one thing, but they also need to constantly be enforced. Sanctions do work, but they are not as effective as we would like them to be. Sure, Russia may still be importing some stuff which it shouldn't be, but it comes at a significantly higher cost due to logistical difficulties and middlemen charging high prices for their services in help of avoiding sanctions.
Don't downplay the effect of sanctions on Russia.

- A lot of analytical data from Russian government-controlled agencies are obviously skewed or manipulated for propaganda purposes. A lot of news agencies seem to forget that a lot of data coming from within Russia, ESPECIALLY IF IT IS SOME GOVERNMENT AGENCY OR MINISTRY, is to NOT be taken at face value until cross fact checked. They can report things close to the truth sometimes, but more often than not you are better off not believing what they say.

- Figures like GDP and unemployment rate don't paint an accurate picture of the state of the economy. Weekly inflation in Russia was recently at 0.37%. If you multiply that by 52 you get over 19% yearly inflation (assuming that it stays at this rate, which is not a guarantee.) I'm doing this to highlight how even official figures on topics like inflation show a very grim picture for Russia.

- Metrics like budget deficit, worker deficit, profitability (or lack thereof) of Russia's industries which struggles are being amplified by high interest rates, and so many other crucial pieces of information are going unreported, either in result of malice or journalistic malpractice.

TL;DR
The fact that Russia's economy hasn't collapsed yet doesn't mean that it is doing good.

There might be a glaring mistake here: the number of sanctions is less important than the scope of the sanctions. If a country really does not wish to do business with another, it really only needs 2 sanctions: private and government dealings. I know this only adds to complications in research, so in advance, my apologies.

I mean yeah, Germany's economy was also pretty good in 1939, but after 3 years of war it started to crack

Russian here. Maybe our economy looks good when you look at graphs, but as a citizen, I'm really not feeling any of that goodness.

Russian citizens had two main points to cope with our shitty government. At least it’s not a war, at least it’s not like in the 90’s. Now we are getting both.

It's hard to have unemployment when you are able to conscript someone into a job at the front. 😂

Russia once again decides to relive history by being resource poor and people rich. Also known as, too many mouths to feed and not enough food.

As a quick additional note one should not forget that Russia had a rather large amount of cash in the bank before the war started. Realistically we should not see the real damage the war has done to the Russian economy until the cash runs out and or the loss of resources to the war effort outpace the ability of the Russian government to finance the country.

well yeah, of course it's strong. a war will always jumpstart an economy. the problem comes from sustaining it for long time, and transitioning back to a peacetime economy afterwards.
edit: and of course thats exactly what they say in the video. i have to stop commenting before watching
