I've lived in Finland for 35 years and never owned a single thing made in russia. The countrys irrelevance is baffling considering its size.

Finland hardly used any Russian natural gas even before the Ukraine debacle. Homes are not heated with it. It was not used to generate electricity. RUSSIA turned off the flow and the Finns said "Meeh!", shrugged their shoulders and imported gas in double quick time from neighbouring Norway.

Russia is a complete enigma really - it should be the richest country in the world with its mega sources of raw materials, but instead it has an economy the size of Australia's. The reason, bad governments after bad governments.

I met a young talented rich man from Russia. He told me that anyone that has the means to escape is doing it. Forget about the money, they also have lost their youth and talent.

History has clearly demonstrated the naivete and stupidity of Angela Merkel's policy of relying upon Russia for energy.

The world suffers a little without Russia. Russia suffers a lot without the world.

"... turning Russia into a kleptocracy." When was Russia or the USSR NOT a kleptocracy?

In 2018 Russia was ranked 11th in world economies. Even Brazil, Canada, and Italy had larger GDPs. And, it was only 8% of the size of the US economy. Its GDP per capita was 65th, ranking behind Argentina and just a little higher than Turkey. As economies go, it has never been a world power. The only reason for all the attention it gets is that it has nuclear weapons.

When was the last time you looked at a product in your house that was made in Russia? You will realize basically nothing comes from there other than oil and gas.

Hopefully renewable energy sources keep getting rapidly developed to continue moving away from fossil sources.

Russia is basically a gaz station with nukes that may or may not work.
And there are many other gas stations in the world.

The amount of wind energy that has been built in Europe in 2 years is insane.

Well, Italy (7th larger manufacturing economy worldwide) situation: 2019 we relied on Russian natural gas for a staggering 44%. Only 16% of energy was based on renewable sources. 2023 we import 0% of natural gas from Russia and 38% of energy is renewable (and constantly rising).
