Path of Exile: Advanced Socket Crafting for Beginners! Getting the Right Colors & More Tips!

Don't forget to check if the ilvl of the item you try to craft is actually high enough to roll the amount of sockets you want: sockets : min ilvl
3 : 15
4 : 28
5 : 35
6 : 50

I usually start off with socket crafting, then link crafting. And at times, when I have enough armor scraps/blacksmith whetstones to burn, I up the quality a bit for every jeweller/fusing use to get that higher chance to get max links/sockets. Note that the quality gets spent everytime you use a jewellers/fusing. Only then do I apply the final 20% quality and then color craft once I'm satisfied with the socket and link setup-since chroming doesn't spend the quality percentage.

Your vid are the best!  I'm a new player and your info has been invaluable.  Totally, not trying to troll, but would add the info on level req to the right number of sockets.  Like you can't get a 6 sockets on a low level item.

Awesome informative stuff Ziggy. I had some good luck when trying to link my Cloak of defiance. Took me 2 jewelers to 6 socket it and about 10 fusings to 5 link it. Sold it directly for 4 ex on domination. Finally made me some currency to buy some other gear for your scion build. Cant wait for the new leagues to start and have a fresh start and fresh economy!

I don't think he mentioned in this video, but having a higher QUALITY item gives you a better chance at getting more sockets/links, so if you really want that item with 4 links quickly, just get it to 20%
using the haku craft to get your armor/weapons to >30% gives you a higher chance at 6l too (though it's still a miserably low chance)

Great video Ziggy. I use chromes jewellers & fusing a lot, but i still learned a few things. I never realised the higher that stats the harder it is to get off colours. 4 linking items is the only good crafting RNG I seem to get :-)

TL;DR - Stat requirements influence which colour of sockets are more likely. Higher requirements give higher chances of that colour, suck that items with very high Strength requirements has a very low chance per socket to give you a blue or green socket.

Also:

Socket forging orbs are 1/4 the value of Link forging orbs.

Link forging orbs should be able to fully link a 4-socket item in roughly 5 uses, give or take.
