I havent taken the ceh yet (currently doing the training program) but I have worked in a dedicated soc as an analyst for 7 months, have an associates in cybsec+networking. In the last 6 months I've taken and passed sec+, cysa, and splunk power user.

NOT trying to toot my horn. What I want to get across to people is that passing a cert and fully understanding the concepts are completely different. And do NOT give up or get discouraged if you feel like you dont understand everything 100%. Daily, consistent, small spurts of studying is the way to go. Tech knowledge comes with time for most people. Really concentrate on knowing the fundamentals. Good luck to everyone out there!!

The fact that they both range in price from $900-$1100 and the validity is only 3 years is ridiculous.

You must do both CEH Ansi & CEH Practical to drastically increase your chances to find a job !
OSCP however will be the best choice after you completed at least CompTIA A+, Network +, Security+ and CySA+ certifications or equivalent .

I've been in the IT world for a little over a year now and passed both Sec+ 501 and CEH v10. For me the Sec+ was a much more difficult exam. Even with those certs and being in an Army cyber unit it's been hard to even get an interview for a job paying more than 60k. Maybe it's because I live in Maine.

I ordered a CEH big book to read and take notes on. I did the same for the CCNA plus took 4 classes at the college level, mostly for lab experience.

One other thing do you have a video on pentesting? where to start and what material you should learn? I"m looking to get into this field but don't know where to start.

Hey i skipped the CEH written. I went straight for the CEH Practical and passed first try. You dont need the CEH ANSI to do the practical. I did it got my cert in Practical.

CEH is an entry-level exam so make it your starting point to develop your knowledge.

Is it very likely that someone with CEH and no degree could get an IT Security job? What if they had e.g. a few months experience in Helpdesk and Desktop Support, and had A+ as the only other certification?

I got A+ again recently, had one before (700 series), looking into sec+ currently and was wondering what exactly C|EH actually was. I am leaning more towards the security side of IT but I think I still need the work experience to actually do anything. This helped explain a bit. Not really new to IT on the personal side (started since Win 95) but company or corporate/gov't 0 yrs xp.
