I don't get the low-value goods tax. In the long-term, what low-value goods are we going to produce that will be competitive to that of manufacturing powerhouses such as China/India? Consumer's money is spent to keep these soon-to-perish local businesses on life-support. The effort should be to help these businesses transition into producing higher-value goods.

The added amount of gst comes into the problem of shipping from overseas in terms of reimbursement fee for the shipper. So you can have a gst of 1 dollar but a reimbursement from the shipper or 20, 30 or even 50 dollars.

Right... paying gst on low-value goods to 'level the playing field for local businesses etc'
There are some stuff that are not available locally, we'll still get taxed then. So I could get taxed for stuff worth as low as $1, and the postal service will have their staff deliver that $1 value package right up to my door( even though it would normally fit into my mailbox) just so they could collect 7cents tax?
That's just going to make the postal service even worse than it is right now. 🤦

200 cash GST money so damn low...it is like an insult man... no mention of workfare money also... i hope can be like last year 3k...but can wait long long ... 100 dollars hawker center voucher is also damn insulting...

shldnt they just make electric cars affordable for us inorder to encourage us to use more electric vechicles? Electric cars are quite ex in singapore + coe. What makes them think we will choose the more expensive option? Furthermore its not like every hdb, every condo parking lot is gonna have a charging point making it difficult for us to charge it. If we have to drive to a certain location just to charge it, it just makes it so much more troublesome

wonder what source of energy the generator use to produce electricity for the 60k EV charging points, the very same fossil fuel ? Is there enough electrical capacity to go around for the whole island? if charging say take 6 hours, would that mean 2 EVs needed to replace 1 ICE vehicle for businesses to be able to operate 12 hours? and what will happen to the toxic batteries/waste at the end of their life cycle?

I strongly encourage Government agencies to conduct thorough checks on employers and punish those with discriminatory hiring practices (particularly those with extremely high percentage of certain foreign-born employees such as Malaysia, India and PRC, regarless of whether they are work pass holders or PRs). Such employers are typically also the ones who are oppressive against the local citizens. I guaranteed once these employers are identified and severely punished, the entire morale of Singapore would be greatly boosted and the Singaporean identity would be further fortified as well.

BUT (at least as reported in media) lacks "future" depth in terms of a strategy / ambition for making singapore a machine intensive, niche manufacturing hub AND to retain / keep manufacturers in Singapore. Covid has proven clearly that manufacturing will help lend critical mass of materials to support the Singapore logistics hub, airport and seaport capacity. During covid - "all" entrepot goods flows via Singapore "stopped" - leaving Singapore high and dry. A previous announcement of 50% growth in 10 years is a good start but lack ambition. urgency and desperation - a 30% in 3 years would be a challenging but serious goal for Singapore. With the OECD CBCR tax reporting this is critical for Singapore also to move away from the "trader" margin tax trap to be a manufacturer as well. We need to increase our tax base

missing a sustainable energy security strategy to replace natural gas

missing steps to make SGX / financial markets competitive in the light of challenges to our financial hub status when market cap of other ASEAN exchanges hubs are poised to overtake in terms of offerings.

All these help the govt gave to please certain category of people. Why don't they look into the monthly contribution of cpf to assess these help is justify than to think hdb dwellers r the needy. I believe those who r old who cannot work n handicap shud received help.

Hi...!.. So long as Airport is not open, there will be no tourist. Hotel empty, shopping at Orchard Rd. will be dead...Taxi will be over supply and lead to no profit. F&B suffer most like Our darling Boat Quay and Clark Airlines to be fully operational, one can project earliest 2024. !

LOL at all the people cursing at the govt over a 10cent increase in fuel price but at the same time happily fawn over a certain "economist" who wants to raise carbon tax by more than 10x
