A New Mexico judge officially dismissed Alec Baldwin’s involuntary manslaughter charge with prejudice on Friday. The famed actor burst into tears when Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer announced her decision. The prosecution withheld critical evidence that helped shed light on how live ammunition made it on the set of Baldwin’s movie “Rust” before the fatal shooting of Halyna Hutchins. Law&Crime’s Jesse Weber breaks down why the judge tossed the case mid-trial.

the other prosecutor resigned when she heard about what was done and walked out of the courtroom.

The worst part is that YOU KNOW this is not the first time this prosecutor has done this. This is typical behavior all over the U.S.

Corrupt prosecutor now imagine how many people are convicted because they can't afford lawyers like Alec despite facing corruption.

I have never seen a prosecutor take the stand and testify as a last ditch effort.. Wow. Embarrassing. The prosecutor was “Special” alright.. Massive blow to New Mexico’s Judicial System…..

The prosecutor should be charged and disbarred from ever practicing law again. With holding evidence that's insane.

That's nasty foul play by prosecutor

Edit: how common is it for a prosecutor to take the stand? Is it humiliating for them??

Prosecutor still thinks she didn't do anything wrong and she carried herself so self righteous. The jury would have ruled against her.

Prosecutorial misconduct is always Dismissed with Pred. Always. It's basically a hard rule. Covering up evidence is a clear Brady violation. The judge's hands were basically tied, it's the only outcome.

Kinda saw this one comin'. Figured it was only a matter of evidentiary violation until this case was dead in the water.

He had really sharp attorneys and they had already, in various motions, shown so many missteps by prosecution…So many kinds of prosecutorial misconduct in discovery, time lines pre trial etc. They just kept stacking up and the judge kept getting more&more angry. But, this was still a surprise! I think the judge knew there were too many holes in the case and too much shady behavior on the part of prosecutors. I don’t think this changes the HGR case because it doesn’t matter who brought the ammo. She was the armorer—she loaded the gun— she told them it was “cold” —she walked away and wasn’t even there when it was handed to A.Baldwin to check each shell as she should have.

Imagine how many times the prosecutor has probably done this in other cases and has gotten away with it. 😠😠. There needs to be more investigations into this.

The evidence came from Hannah's witness and her defence lawyer didn't want to use it because it made Hannah look more guilty. It was her lawyer that declined to use this evidence. Hannah isn't going anywhere.

Does the prosecutor still have a job? Why???

Makes me wonder what has gone on in other cases where the lawyer wasn't as on top of things as Baldwin's.

Is this a one off?
