Why I Hate My 1955 Chevy Nomad - PLUS How UTG Is Killing Hot Rodding

Here's the down low on having a low production "rare" hot rod. Parts are expensive AND hard to find! That means everything will take more time that you expect. The biggest hang up on this car.... Is everyone thinks it should be restored back to factory. I hate to say it, but shiny restored cars just aren't for me.

Now let's talk about that Canadian hater @UncleTonysGarage
I love that guy! Check him out for real life car knowledge! He knows his stuff.

I don't often comment, but here it goes... This guy takes cars most people would crush and puts them back on the street. He's working with the same budget, tools and expertise that most of us have. More importantly, he's having fun doing it. Let's cut him some slack and watch a fellow hot-rodder enjoy his hobby while sharing it with us. Thanks. Rock on, Dan.

Mopar guy on a budget here with a driver. I like what you and UTG do. Gives us regular guys a chance to enjoy these vehicles. Respect.

I'm outraged by the number of perfectly good parts cars that DDspeedshop has ruined by making them into safe, functional automobiles! Please continue.

I remember that you started with a door and a roof and turned it into a masterpiece. If people want it restored, send parts, paint and chrome.

You've undoubtedly saved that car, so I'd just ignore anyone who hasn't got the intelligence to understand how much work time and money you put in to this, it looks great!

You are doing a fine job on the nomad. Seeing how far that you have come has been an inspiration to others. Hang in there.

When I was probably 8 years old, I flew to Reno with my mom. Her brother picked us up. But uncle Al was a cool dude. He picked us up in a baby blue 55 nomad. Drove us from Reno to Oregon up the west Coast. One of the highlights of my childhood.

I've never fully restored a car, but heard this advice: Before you get started, take a $100 bill, place it on the shop floor, and light it on fire. Do it again, then again, until you become numb to it.
At that point you are ready to start the restoration process

I wouldn’t worry about all the haters you’re doing a fantastic job of doing what you’re doing so mind the haters no mind

@DD Speed Shop
I personally love the 55 Nomad. It was a complete rust bucket, and nearly everyone that saw it as you got it would agree that it was just far too rotted away to even consider trying to get it back on the road.

I'm a 55 year old Gulf War Veteran from the US, I'm also a Chevy guy. I myself would've bought it for the trim etc.... and scrapped what was left. I'm happy that you proved me wrong.

I'm glad that you put that old girl back together and saved it from the crusher.

You've done an awesome job on the car, and I'm glad that you took the time to save it. Great job Dan.😊👍🏼

GBY and your family. 🙏🏻🕊🙏🏻

You had me going for a minute there. Guys like you and Tony are the guys who are saving hot rodding. Most of us aren't checkbook builders. Plus making junk run fast is more fun and satisfying than just spending money and following trends.

Keep doing what your doing Dan.
Normal people don't live magazine/TV lifes, we live in the real world where we have to watch our money closely.

I love the Nomad! I saw what you started with and most of the haters bitching about your car would have sent the car to the crusher rather than do what you have done. You're an inspiration to those of us building cars from beaters - not to mention you provide comedy relief for those of us that get (and have) your sense of humor. Dan for Pt of Canada!! LOL 😀😀

I’m an import guy with a bunch of Hondas and a Subaru. You and UTG and Dudes with Wrenches are the only “old school” car channels I subscribe to. Some things are universal and aren’t specific to car brand. Y’all are a rare breed. Keep up the good work.

You're one of my favorite channels. I'm not really even into Tri-Fives, but your style and the way you drag them out of the junkyard or back 40 and get them driving? Amazing to me. I hope you can make it HUGE in YouTube land, and be able to keep making great videos for all of us for years to come. No matter what, I hope you keep having fun and building drivers from old piles of junk. Anyone who thinks they can do it better is welcome to go ahead and do it. At the end of the day, you're doing what YOU want to do, with cars that YOU buy. Some people think they know how everything should be, and how it should be done. I'm enjoy watching you do what you do, even if it's not my style exactly. All the best to you and Dani. And thanks for another video full of smiles and a few outright laughs.

Your words are so true. I bought a 57 nomad. So happy I did. Mine was better but still so much work and money. I was lucky, before I invested all that you put out in money and time someone with the same feeling of I got to have that came along. I turned a 15, 000 profit. He has 65, 000 in it now and on his way to 80, 000. That is not a great show car, but a great driver. It is because of the words Nomad. I love what you do and enjoy watching. What you do reminds me of working on our cars in the 60s and 70s. Thanks!

Agreed, the words that instantly kill any project - "No, No...I want this one done right" or "I don't want to drive it until...". Just get it driving and on the road, you can always pick away and clean it up as you ENJOY it!

Awesome job man. Keep up the real hot rod builds. As my dad used to say “use what you have” and “make it work”. Another one I like is built, not bought.
Love watching your tube👍
