Thoughts on using up art supplies- a few ideas

A slightly off-the-cuff extra video this week, as I have been tidying up my draws (again ) and want to make sure I am using and enjoying the supplies I have, I want to have some fun and loosen up my approach to combining mediums. I'm looking to also get out my 'best' supplies and have a go at using them in more experimental /abstract work - which is something I have been reluctant to do in the past. First some ideas for dealing with dried up paints and reusing paper so you can freely enjoy loosening up without worries about wasting good quality paper or paints.
Let me know which are your least used supplies, and any ideas for reusing, art materials.
thanks for watching Sonia

Hi Sonia. Oh my goodness, it's like you're in my brain with this video. I consistently sort through my art supplies - once weekly general tidy of worspace, monthly deeper organize, and then annual deep (and ruthless) declutter. Decemeber is my deep cleaning month and I am currently surrounded by decisions and assorted piles of forgotten supplies. Paper is a common one. All kinds of paper, but mostly upcycled packaging. I was making woven paper blankets for a while and still have a lot of paper from those projects. One art supply I consiously moved away from is acrylic paint and I have quite a lot of it. I won't buy more because I don't like it and I'm struggling to put it to good use. I may just end up donating it. Thanks for another meaningful video; your musings always stir me up in a good way.

I love your videos so much! I have not used my posca markers in a long time. Also my Caran dache neocolor II crayons. I just need to find the best way to create with them. They are still tucked away in my art drawers. Also I have some watercolor paints and some acrylic paints that I need to start using. 😊

oil pastels. Love the idea of them and they make me nostalgic. my Mum used to teach drawing classes for oil pastels when I was very small, like 3-6 years old, and she often took me with her and I would just sit in a corner and colour or draw or play and I love the smell of oil pastels because it reminds me of that time but I hate hate HATE how using them feels, I can't get any detail, it's tacky and messy and I just can't 😢

My problem is when I watch videos I may see a new paint etc I think I must have it....I have more art supplies than I can use in my lifetime😳.

I have way too many pastel pencils. Thought I’d use them for landscape but find them tricky.

Jelly cup gouache, kuretake gansai, heavy body acrylic paint, oil paint, pentel oil pastel, Posca markers, staedler color pencils,

The jelly gouache I bought is cheap so it dries with a sort of gray film over it. I regret buying it. But then that same year I bought some pricey acrylic gouache and I ended up not liking it either.

I like to box up art supplies if I haven’t used them in a year or so, put them away for another year and donate them if I haven’t used them by the second year.

I gave my Geli gouache away. I did not like it at all. I don't think they liked it either.
