Mt. Olympus Day 2: Spilios Agapitos refuge to Skala peak

Показать описание
Skala peak is the highest point of Mt. Olympus that is reachable without technical rock scrambling. The true summit at Mytikas is only a few meters higher in elevation but is still 500 meters and almost two hours away on a rock scramble, so the night before we decided that today's goal is the top of Skala peak.
Unfortunately the gods of Olympus didn't see fit to give us clear and warm weather, so even as we reached the peak we were not rewarded with good views. Everything was obscured by thick clouds. It was still an amazing accomplishment and experience for our family, especially for Tala.
It was terribly cold, and we couldn't stay long to see if the clouds will clear. We started our descent after half an hour on the peak. The descent was no easier as the trail was loose gravel and we had to take it slow again to avoid slipping and falling. Once we cleared the steep gravel trail we could take a more relaxed pace getting back to the refuge.
