PlayStation is making a PS5 handheld console that could come in the future. Apparently, the PlayStation handheld console has been in the works for awhile as it was originally pitched as a part of the PlayStation Portal.

Sony has a great track record of abandoning its handhelds ….

Knowing Sony and their arrogance, I can see them releasing a device that only plays Playstation games at the "value" price of $899+

Knowing the genius of the marketing team at Xbox, the new portable will probably be called The Xbox Series Mini X One X.

Let's hope that Sony doesn't make their memory cards more "proprietary" because if they do which means no buy

Compete with Xbox? Isn't this the same guy that said the console wars are over and Xbox are doing something completely different?

What’s funny about this is a while back several media outlets said that Sony and Microsoft was working on handheld. I wanna say it was two maybe three years ago so this is nothing new.

It makes a lot of sense both for Sony and Microsoft to break into the market of handheld consoles. The Switch is, after all, the most sold console and that is certainly not only because of the popular IPs of Nintendo, but also due to the fact that it is just nice to have a portable device which one can use everywhere. Also, I think it will be good for the gamers in general if there is more competition in this space. In the sense that both Nintendo and Valve (with Steamdeck) might have to offer more for less money when there are more options for the customers to choose from (like "little" Playstations or Xboxes).

I think most people that heard about the Portal when it was just a leaked rumor (From Tom Warren i think). Already understood that there was a version of the Portal that plays games natively. Just based on the Portals code name being the "Q Lite." Which most people took as an indication that there had to be a non "Lite" version.

Everyone brings up the steamdeck as competition. The steamdeck sold less then 5 million units it's not competition for the switch

Put the cellprocessor in it ...and give full access to PS3 ps2 library....

There's no way this handheld could be the same power as a ps5 and still be $400-500, a base Rog Ally is roughly equal to the ps4 and is $500. This future handheld will have it's own library of games like its predecessors.

You forgot to mention this part of the article: “Sony’s portable device is likely years away from launch and the company could still decide against bringing it to market.”

So it’s not 100% confirmed it’ll launch.

😂 just as I expected the Portal was just a cash grab to help fund the actual handheld

I don’t understand the need for it when you have already so many options already and every games are being ported to PC anyway. By the time Xbox & PS are releasing their handhelds we will have a better Deck or Ally

2:03 you think they read the article last week and just started work on a portable? definitely not. They've been very hardware focused this gen.

It better play my backlog of digital PSP & PS Vita titles

Sony and Microsoft are way too late on the handheld market for this gen and onwards, especially saying things like 'might not even release' or 'years away' respectively. Especially in Microsofts case. They should have been thinking about a handheld during the Activision acquisitions. Valve is way ahead of these bigger companies in a lot of ways.
