I love how the book uses classic tropes but turns them on their head. I love the dialogue some of the most memorable lines I've ever read. Its even better if you listen to Steven Pacey read it. He performs the voices extremely well. Very talented voice actor.

Spot on review. You said pretty much everything I thought of the book. The only thing I think was missing was a mention of the humor. I thought that despite it being dark, it almost always had an edge of humor to the dialogue and even inner monologue.

Abercrombie is great, he ended the trilogy in a great way and his other books in this world are even better

The ending of the third book. Holy shit. <3 Its so good. Soooo good. <3 No, i really liked books 1 and 2 but the ending of 3 really blew me the heck AWAY. This was a trilogy where the ending made it memorable.

I really love how Abercrombie is not afraid to have some light hearted (and even wholesome) moments and humor. I feel a lot of authors confuse having a "realistic view of the world" with "misery porn" (George RR Martin included). And while the world in First Law is certainly corrupt and dark, that doesn't mean that you can't have a laugh or a kind moment. *That* is realistic.

I tried to read this about 3 years ago and DNF for some reason. Decided to try again just recently and I’m Obsessed now. Lesson I learned is if your not enjoying a book, you should try it again at another stage in your life and your opinion could flip.

Just finished the first book. Loved it! Thought the world building was good enough so far as I’m sure it will get expanded upon in the following books. I couldn’t believe how much I loved every character arc and never wanted to rush through any chapter just to get to the next arc.

I just finished this one, I loved Bayez, he was my favourite character. Glokta too obviously, my favourite parts were Glokta searching for info on Bayez and then the group entering the House of the Maker. Brilliant book, I’m gonna start book 2 today.

Must cast a dissenting stone here; the ending of this trilogy was one of my favorites in all of fantasy.
