ENA is bizarre. It's a soup of absolute madness full of all sorts of strange and uncanny things. The inspirations and references behind this series run deep, and the sum of all its chaotic parts amount to something great. So what are the ingredients to ENA that make it so... captivating? What are the references, pop culture callouts, and easter eggs that lend to its charm? and what's interesting is these older influences might even explain things in the show - like how ENA should be trapped in Runas for 10,000 years specifically.

So let's take a look behind the curtain… under the hood, through the code, and back in time….

I've seen this character around but had no idea it came from a show. I'll definitely have to check it out now.

I actually got to meet the the voice actress for Moony and ENA (the sad side) last year at Anime Dallas! She was really kind and funny, and she got pretty hyped in character when I recognized ENA and Moony along with Pomni and a JJBA character named Trish as they came from the same actress. It was really fun getting to know Lizzie Freeman, and we got a good laugh out of her using a cardboard cutout of Caine's censor bar as a reference to TADC's swear jokes. I still have her autograph on an AD badge from 2021 along with some autographs of other voice actors back in that year. It was a comical shock when I found out she wrote a small note under her autograph that read "aka XDDCC" lol.

Thanks for covering one of my favorite animators, animation. They never post so I forget their name and channel frequently. I'm gonna go return to their channel now when it's been maybe over a year 👍

I watched "into the minds eye" on VHS tape as a kid in the 90s so inspiring for me as an artist. I should've done digital art sooner than I did. But hardly anyone knows about these, so cool. Love this channel :3

1:41 those hills specifically reference early procedurally generated terrain like what's found in test drive 3 for DOS

Before I couldn’t really understand but I felt for now I literally understand and actually vibe with it. I can relate to ENA because most people saw my shifts and thought I was crazy I’m just a oddball of course I’m not alone in this because ENA is my friend that protected my emotions and didn’t let people control me. ENA also taught me the importance of balancing and sharing not taking.

Discovered this serie one day on YT and instantly fell in love with it, ENA gives such a bizarre yet unique and wonderful vibe to the point we'd like to wander in her world, ena herself is funny and mysterious, overall 10/10 serie (I wonder what the conclusion to her adventures will be)

8:20 Those "Talking Heads dance moves" were actually a creation of Toni Basil, who did the choreography for "Once In a Lifetime." People may also know her from her 1982 hit song "Mickey."

it’s hard for me not to project bad memories onto this entire chaotic and ugly aesthetic that was forced on us in art school. it was not a happy time fo fellow korean/muslim art students were not allowed to draw beautiful things, the professors encouraged disgust and decay and political commentary over actual craft and skill. a person’s art was accepted as leaving a decomposing couch on campus, or defacing religious symbols like the Christian cross or koran with feces for their final project.. fun times
