What Killed the Clash of Clans Franchise?

Clash of Clans and it's sequel Clash Royale are 2 of the most financially successful mobile games to have ever hit the market. Through both their style and charm, as well as their distinct business strategy. But rarely do I ever see anyone bringing these games up outside of a few memes last year. So today I'm going over the story of Supercell, to see what events lead to the 94% decline of what used to be the most financially successful games.

I find it hilarious how many mobile games were made after Clash of Clans took off that had a shouting man as their game icon.

The clash games are far from dead, they still have a very large player base. Its just not as widely talked about anymore.

Clash of Clans is still going strong to this very day. That and Boom Beach also has animated commercials that gives the characters more personality, especially what they did with Hog Rider and Dr. T.

Simple, the fanbase simply died of old age while waiting for the builder to finish changing the toilet seats in the town hall for 10 years straight

I think the point about dedicated players is completely fair. A lot of Clash of Clans players have been playing for a very long time, and are less likely to quit. I feel like new players who are just getting the game are not nearly as likely to stick with it. Probably why there's not a ton of growth anymore.

The game has reduced upgrade times over the years and increased ways to get loot. Magic items, clan raids, etc. The game is better than it ever was, but I will admit there is something nostalgic thinking about when TH10 was the max level and global chat was still out. They need to bring back global chat.

I have an idea
Instead of saying "what killed the ___ franchise" you could name it "is the ___ franchise really dead?" Because the last 2 videos from this series I have watched has had an ending where it wasn't really dead, and changing the title would feel a bit less clickbait-y, even though I do enjoy the content you post
But hey that's just my opinion
Edit: when the hell did I get 100 likes

I started playing clash of clans again last year, i went from TH10 to a TH11, and from my experience it is much dead-er than in it's prime (when i started), but it's still decently alive. I will say tho, since the global chat has been taken away, the game feels more isolated and so it makes it harder to see, meet or talk to other active players. And it also makes it hard to actually guage how dead or alive the player base actually is

YouTube videos formula in 2023.
Insert "What killed" insert "Game name"
😂

I used to always think the company name was “sup” “erc” “ell” as three separate names lmao. Good times

Not really dead, because the fan base is still pretty active, youtubers still making content off COC, tournaments being held, you name it.

Just because a game isn’t in its “prime” doesn’t mean it’s “dead”. People have completely butchered that word’s meaniny

"Its 2013 and you have nothing to do so you decide to download this new hot game your friend keeps telling you about. You were amazed by his base so you decide to make your own"

don't you remember?

The game is not dead, it's just not talked about anymore as it used to be.

In my opinion, clash of clans REVOLUTIONIZED mobile gaming as a whole, despite not being that much talked anymore, it still has an up and running player base, as a CoC player myself, the game itself is fun, despite the long upgrade waits in high town hall levels, Clash of clans is still alive, is just not as known in the internet as it used to.

This is the only "what killed" video i disagree with. These games still have millions of players, and active eSports communities. They aren't dead, what are you high on?

It's not dead, just isn't in the limelight anymore and prolly never will be, 2016-2018 is the peak I think. I still play it with random clans, but there was a time when all of my Bros played it, now it's just me. It's just a F2P chill game for me. We don't take War and Clan games seriously

I feel like a major factor to COC being less popular nowadays is the fact that after town hall 11, the game becomes exponentially harder. You can’t spawn lightnings and dragons and get away with it anymore and it requires actual meta armies to be used at a chance of doing relatively well. For the casual player base, a majority of people have busy lives such as jobs, school sports, etc. They don’t have time to spend hours practicing attacks, they just want to get on, upgrade something, attack once or twice and go on with their day.
