Brett Goldstein said that Roy calling for Phoebe wasn't written in the script; he came up with it right as they were getting ready to shoot. I can't imagine this scene without it. Comedic brilliance.

Brett just nails the old school football tough guy. Love the walk, that’s the British tough guy walk done to perfection … and done holding the hand of a sweet little 6 year old girl. Genius.

At the very end of the clip, that face he's making isn't about Roy. He's about to ask Trent Crimm, the Independent, to get some food. He's not bothered by Roy's hostility in the slightest. It reminds me of the very first episode when Ted tells Coach Beard, "If he thinks he's angry now, wait until we win him over." (or something like it)

This is why Roy is the best character. He could have thrown that book away. But he doesn’t. He reads it and learns from it. As gruff and angry as he is, he is adaptable and seeks self improvement.

It's a lovely novel. It's the story of a young girl's struggle with the burden of leadership as she travels through space.

What makes this scene is that Roy tries to come off as a tough guy curmudgeon, but then he immediately holds his nieces hand when they walk away.
