I can tell you're a well seasoned prepper.

Bay leaves also help keep pests out of your food storage. I just added some to the 25lbs of rice I put in storage.

I stock up on the ones I use the most: salts (various kinds), peppercorns, glarlic powder (store bought and homemade), onion powder (store bought and homemade green onion powder)& dehydrated onion pieces, ginger powder, Lemon pepper, cinnamon, everything bagel, oregano, sumac, and while it's not technically a spice soy sauce... it is such a common ingredient for me, and I store it with my spices...😊

It's great to see everyone's lists! Thanks for sharing and giving us all new ideas!

I have a lot of whole spices in my storage since they seem to last a bit longer. Some of our top items spice wise are: various peppercorns, cumin seeds, coriander seeds, dried cilantro, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, cardamom pods, parsley, dried peppers, lots of granulated garlic, and dehydrated ginger.

A different perspective... I stock several bulk spice blends.

Instead of buying bay leaves you can easily grow them as well. The plant is ornamental and can be grown in most climates.

That's a great list, and of course, the perfect starting point, depending on your preferences. I keep a large bag of Curry powder in stock, because I really love curry. Ginger is often used in Curry, so I'd have to have that in my top 10, and it's good for digestion, and if I have a cold, or just want a hot pick me up on a cold day, I infuse ginger and lemon, and add a little honey. I'm quite lucky as my area has a lot of Asian residents (In the UK that means people from the Indian sub-continent) so most supermarkets have a 'World Food' aisle, where large bags of spices and rice can be bought. Those little jars are for show ;-)

I’d probably move cumin and cilantro into my list since I love Mexican food and salsas. I think you’d qualify vanilla as a spice, so I’d add that since it’s so important in baking. Rosemary is easy to grow and is winter-hardy in many areas. Plus, when you cut it, it makes the house smell great when placed in a vase with water. Oregano is winter hardy in my area also. So I’d qualify those as landscape plants, freeing my list for more spices! Wish I lived in a place where lemons and oranges grow, I’d love to have those trees.

Great list ! (Smoked and hot Paprika are delish! I add one or the other into almost everything)

I would add whole cloves. If you had a bad tooth ache, you can take a clove and tuck it between your lip and gum and let the clove sit there. It will release an oil that numbs the area and deaden the pain until you can see a dentist. In Indian medicine from India, they put drops of clove oil into their ear canal for ear aches and other conditions. I never did that but I have used the cloves for tooth ache or mouth pain. Like from biting your lip or tongue or burning your mouth from hot food or drink.

I agree with this list of what I think of as savory spices for cooking. I also stock others for baking, where I want cinnamon, poppy seed, vanilla, almond flavoring, nutmeg, mace, cloves (ground and whole), ginger, cream of tartar. Smaller quantities for these for my household.

Great list
I would suggested getting your spices as whole as possible. When you grind your own pepper for example, the flavor is much better so I end up using less of it.
Also, as much as I love seasoning salt, I get Mrs. Dash salt free to lower my salt intake.
I just put up a video today of the spices I use at home and out in the woods.
Thanks for the video

Pretty much the same lineup but I’d choose pepper flakes instead of ground cayenne and cumin instead of dill. I’d give an honorable mention to garam masala and curry powder.

Great video. After garlic my #2 is Lemon Pepper....it works with so many things and it gives a zing to any dish. I use it on all meats, eggs, soups, potato and pasta dishes. It just adds a brightness to everything...and it is cheap to boot! Check it out!

Basil, Thyme, Oregano (Which together make for a decent 'Italian mix'), some rosemary can be great too for change of taste. Unions and Garlic are here too. Then Nutmeg and Paprika Powder (great on pancakes with gouda cheese, or on meats). Other spices would be Shoarma mix for meat, and some sort of Chili spice.

Given that beans, rice and lentils are the bulk of most prepper pantries, spices to make Indian cuisine top my list. I would add to your list of spices - cumin, curry powder, garam masala, corriander, and cardomom.
