Egypt will never admit that the Sphinx was there before the Pharoahs. It was originally a Lion. Some Pharaoh recarved it into a human looking head. The head, now, is way too small for that huge body. Sphinx probably at least 50, 000 years old

I believe in the theory that the Sphinx was originally a lion or cat statue, then re-carved to become the Sphinx that we know now. I always thought that the head and body of the Sphinx are not proportionally correct.

Obviously, it was an advanced civilization that preceded the dynastic Egyptians. But, you won't read that in any history book.
