Honestly, there are *so many* people out here that need prescription hearing aids but balk at or simply can not afford a device that costs X10 the price of an OTC device. There just does not seem to be a way around the fact that for many people professional hearing care will remain a pipe dream forever. Great video, for sure! Keep up the good work.

Friends and folks, if you watched this video and still think OTC aids are great then let me do an analogy. Yes, I know for some who can't afford to go to grocery for food certainly can't afford good prescription hearing aids. BUT, if you are determined to hear well you will find a way. OK, the analogy is for those who are slowly losing their eyesight.... So you go to CVS or WalGreens and you buy the 10.00 reading glasses and over the years you buy stronger ones until one day you can't see distance too well and you put off going to the eye doctor until one day you are driving along and get lost because you can't read the street signs. Please don't ask me how I know all So when you finally go get REAL glasses and can see near and far like never before, you will kick yourself. This is the very same with OTC hearing aids vs Perscription aids. If you have a very mild hearing loss OTC aids may do the trick, BUT how do you know. Now as for not affording REAL hearing aids, there are many organizations that may help you pay for your hearing aids. Where do you find out who ? Your favorite Audiologist's office is the first place to start. While your there, you should ask for an audiological exam.

Dr. Cliff - Thank you for making this video. I have been using ReSound Linx Quattro hearing aids, for which I paid $6000, for over three years. I have NEVER been able to hear as well as I thought I should with them, and I continually complain to my audiologist about that. About a month ago, for less than $1000, I purchased a set of Lexie B2 over the counter hearing aids to try. After wearing them for two weeks, I believe that I hear almost as good with them as I do with the ReSounds, although still not as well as I think I should be able to hear. The Lexie B2s are not without their drawbacks, but I like that I can adjust them myself in various situations in order to be able to hear better. The bottom line for me is that a prescription hearing device is no better than the audiologist who programs it, and unfortunately, my audiologist is not very good. I have looked for a Hearing Up provider, but the closest one is about 400 miles away from where I live. I admire and appreciate your passion for helping us hear better!

Yep great thing is I’m going to try them because I don’t have the cash for the prescription. And then I’ll know for myself, how well they work and balance the cost or what I get out of them. I’ve heard you know I want to hear them.

What ever happens, he gave me a very fine stainless steel insulated coffee mug with Dr. Cliff Show logo on it! Many thanks, I use it several times every day!

I have (what I would assume) pretty great insurance benefits for hearing aids. What I don’t have is the knowledge based on what the benefit differences is between terms used.

I’m new to this (have single sided hearing loss and need CROS) and haven’t called to set up an appointment yet and I know I could ask the provider but I thought it’d be a good video subject.

My insurance states mid to high level digital is covered 100% both monaural and binaural. But starts charging (minimally compared to out of pocket prices) for advanced/flagship binaural but monaural is covered 100% still.

A video explaining the difference in levels would be awesome, unless someone can point me in the direction if there’s already one on the channel.

I just purchased Apple air pods pro 2. They are currently working for me. I learned about them through your channel. I know R/X hearing would be the best.

It remains to be seen whether or not OTC hearing aids will provide a better solution for people. The current audiology evaluation and prescription system is designed by manufacturers who have something to sell, in conjunction with licensed hearing aid dispensing business people who get to charge for a service. The current system is based on machines that produce beeps in a sound proof booth, produce squiggly lines on a computer screen and hearing aids are then programmed based on the beeps and squiggly lines. This results in a hearing aid that works well in a sound proof booth, and places control of the hearing aid in the hands of the audiologist and dis-empowers the patient. But the market is too huge for the audiologist community to funnel it thru their wallets. We will see mergers and divestment among the large brands and large investment in research and development of OTC hearing aids that will render audiologists and their wildly expensive products obsolete. Prices are going to drop across the board and technology will change and improve. Audiologists are a vanishing breed and they're making every effort to preserve their position in the market by trashing OTC hearing aids on YouTube. It won't work for long. Soon OTC hearing aid technologies will replace audiologists and their magic beep machines and sound proof booths, and their big-name cash cows will undersell them direct to consumer as Tesla has done in the car market.

I just recently about 30 days ago my audiologist help me order an Phonak Audio L70. She's been very patient with me but we can't seem to eliminate a very disturbing high pitch distortion especially in the left ear. She's done numerous adjustments and also listened to try to figure it out. I'm not sure if you know what the best fix would be. I'm ready to send them back.

Is there really any other option but OTC hearing aids when insurances like medicaid cover audiological testing but not the hearing aids themselves. There's a few religious charities, but they rarely accept marginalized communities.

Have you reviewed the Jaba Enhanced PRO PM hearing aids? I recently bought these, but feel there may be better technology available. I’m struggling getting them set right.

Hi doctor, never in my wildest dreams did I believe one day I was going to need a hearing aid, I'm in my early 60s just retired and always been working where I needed a gun so I'm not new to the issue, every time I needed to requalify for gun permits always wear eat protection anyway here what happened - I'm retired so I told my daughter I don't need too many guns I'll just sell them and use the money for more important things so before I sell them I just wanted to shoot one or 2 guns just for fun - so we went to the range and shot some 22s and one 9 mm ( I have good shooting protectors but I was kind of lacy and I took those ear plugs you got for $5 ) we only there for not even 15 minutes ( I just want to shoot one last time very fast) after getting home my left ear sounded like a disconnect speaker on a radio and only car hear about 20%, I ordered some $200 hearing aids from Amazon they help but they sound like I'm talking on the phone, my question is do you think the hearing can come back it been 2 weeks I can hear just a little better each day but not enough, and my second question prescription hearing aids sound much better than the one I have I mean the speaker sound is not there? I'm about 4 hours from phenex and I'm willing to drive there for a consultation, thank you for everything and people out there please please always wear the best hearing protection you can afford it's cheaper at the end.

3:03 dont get me wrong, but might there be a slight chance that the way you measure amplification differ from what the manufacturers do to estimate amplification levels (which I'm certain is according to medical grade standards) and thus somewhat wrong since all devices you measured were too low?
