Explantion: He's talking about the discovery that fiber optic cables (the way the internet is brought most places) can transmit signals faster than previously thought, if the sending and recieving ends can send and detect multiple wavelengths (basically colors) of light. This way, multiple light signals can be sent at once through a cable, instead of just one. This technology is still relatively new, and the main question right now is if already installed fiber optic cables can be modified to properly transmit all of the signals at once. While it's still a work in progress, it has been showing promise lately, and it's possible transcontinental cables could soon use this method of light transfer.
