The 2016 clown scare was a widespread phenomenon that started in Greenville, South Carolina, and spread to over 20 states in the US and several countries worldwide.

I remember when there was also a new term right after; CLOWN HUNTING. Several of my school mates or other people in general got sick of these pranks and got to chase after anyone who has a clown costume. I think that's how people stopped these pranks quickly after XD

For context, I was only 9 at this time, I’m turning 18 this year.

I was eight years old in 2016 when it all happened, and those clowns were the only thing I feared at the time. I am 17 now and completely forgot this was a thing.

I remember seeing one while at recess and it scared me so much. I went to the teacher about it and accidentally scared some other students😭 Gosh how time flies by

All of this happened when I was in middle school, and it got so out of hand that my school went into lockdown. People were creating clown Facebook accounts and posting threats online. Our school was one of a dozen in the area that were targeted with warnings about murderous clown attacks, it was so surreal 😭

i was younger when this happened so of course now every time i see a clown it scares the crap out of me. i’m so stupid for even believing that back then.

God, this brought back a lot of memories, especially when my school was on lockdown because of a clown sighting.

Dude I remember this, I was about 10 years old and in year 5 when I saw all these news articles about it (for reference I’m 18 now) but that was the good ol days 😅

That's what made 2016 even more memorable, which it already was thanks to bottle flipping and Dude Perfect. I loved that year.

I remember when this happened, I was 14 when all of this was going on and it caused a lot of people to tell their kids to be back home before nightfall on Halloween
