You guys know I’m no stranger to gym controversies, and it looks like we’ve got a new one on our hands that has to do with influencers getting upset when people don’t go out of their way to let them film their content at the gym. Let’s talk about it.

We have a local gym that banned all filming. They gained members. They are serious about it, too. Get caught, and they refund your money moving forward and block your access.

A woman saying she's a gym influencer is quickly becoming a red flag.

This is why I go to the gym at night. These influencers seem to always pick the busiest time. Everyone likes attention, but the attention seeking here is way too much.

It's hard enough for some people to get the courage to go to the gym and then you have to deal with attention seeking clowns.

I am a custodian at a Gold's Gym and the number of cameras is staggering. I will often try to work around them, but also don't feel bad if I walk in front. What's worse are the cameras in the locker rooms of people wanting to film their progress but not respecting the people changing in the back. Have received many complaints of uncomfortable customers asking us to tell them to stop.

As a woman, it is my opinion that gyms should ban ALL filming. BUT gyms need to have their own security cameras filming to protect men from false accusations AND protect women who are real victims of harassment.

Edit: yes, I am aware that no one has mentioned security cameras. Yes, I am aware that no one is arguing that we should remove security cameras. I mention security cameras because I believe they are the ONLY cameras that should be allowed to film in the gyms. And in my opinion, gyms NEED to have security cameras for the protection of men and women. Thank you. That is my opinion and I am allowed to bring it up.

I lifeguarded at a gym through highschool. The number 1 posted rule was no filming/photos in the gym/locker room/pool. Alwaya seemed like a pretty common sense rule.

Yes, I don’t understand why public gyms allow this. If you want to be an influencer, trainer or what ever get your own personal gym. Simple.

I think people should not be allowed to record in the gym while others are around without consent. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Years ago they opened a new Golds Gym in my county. They were going to have a professional film crew at the gym to make a commercial. Everyone entering the gym that day had to read and sign a consent form. If you did not, then that meant you could not be filmed or in some cases they recommended you come back in a few hours after the filming was done . So, in my humble opinion, these influencers should be made to follow the same rules if they want to film!

Speaking as a film maker, this appears to be private property, not a public space. If so, she should be getting signed releases from everyone who appears on camera. There is a reasonable expectation of privacy, so she could be and maybe should be sued. Unless the gym has obtained signed releases from members, they may be vulnerable, too. Now, especially if she paints unflattering pictures of those who appear or if she suggests bad intent of any sort, there is a heap of things that could happen to her and all of these other "influencers".

As an overweight older woman I have never been more grateful to have a gym attached to my workplace and that it has a no filming rule. We actually sign to say that it is one of the rules and that breaching this rules will result in a permanent ban and a discussion with our line manager about breaching our colleagues reasonable right to an expectation of privacy.

I haven’t put my face on social media for over 10 years now. And if I was in the background of someone’s video I would be hella pissed. Some people take their online privacy very seriously and that should be respected.

Imagine being in an imaginary fight with someone who doesn’t even know! 😂 This type of immaturity is rampant these days and leads me to question how ppl are being raised. Is it neglect? Lack of discipline? Yes.

If you want to film in the gym for a monetized video, you should first need to obtain a signed release from everyone in the gym. If you fail to obtain that, you may not film.

A new trend should be, everyone stopping everything and staring at people recording themselves at the gym 💀

100% cameras should be banned in gyms. Are you there to train or are you there to be a toxic presence on social media? People are entitled to their privacy and not be part of your social media garbage - particularly when you publicly attack them for ‘ruining’ your ‘influencer’ videos.

I stopped going to a regular gym due the constant cell phone filming/ speakerphone. The level of self-absorption is out of control. Even filming in locker rooms. I now go to Orange theory as they don’t allow cell phones.

An influencer gym is a smart idea logically but we all know these influencers would never go to those 😂 They thrive on the attention and content that comes with annoying the general public and framing it like we're annoying them

As a professional photographer I have to get permits if I'm going to post publicly. The permits are to keep people from abusing the venues.
