Oh, so a nickel defender is that extra DB instead of a linebacker. So when there’s two nickels on the field, they don’t call it “double nickel, ” lol

So nickel defense = 5 defenders because a nickel is 5. Got it. But dime is 6 DB but a dime = 10. Did football people forget how to count? They do get hit in the head a lot.
