Im not negotiating all of those add-ons. I would just walk out and go to another dealership.

Years ago I wanted to buy a Chevy p/u truck but they lied to me about the pricing and I walked away. They had a $325.00 "marketing" fee. When I questioned it the guy explained it was a charge for advertising. I said I didn't see the advertisement and to take it off. They said no, I said bye. We must walk away. If we don't they will continue to steal from us.

MOST dealers will try to get the buyer to pay for all this "fluff". Unfortunately, the dealer takes what should be a pleasant experience and turns it into a nightmare. If you don't like the way the dealer and its employees are trying to steer you, walk out. Don't give them any explanation; just walk. Any information you give them as to why you are walking out they will use to better prepare for scamming the next buyer.

As much as I want to buy a car, the thought of having to go to a dealer and dealing with such crap as me put off. A friend of mine shopped online and found his Toyota Tundra from some other state and he dealt everything online and had the truck shipped to his house. He said that dealer settled for MSRP and no BS fees. That might be the way or CarMax. Dealers can hold on to their inventory and shove it.

I never pay any dealer fees ever. I tell them the OTD price I'm willing to pay and let them figure out the calculus to make it happen.
If not, I walk. Have a nice life.

What about the “using the chair in the dealers office fee” or “walking through the showroom” fee.

They don't call them "stealerships" for nothing.

Tell them what you will pay "out the door". No add-ons, no fluff. They can arrange their numbers any way they want as long as you drive it away for the final price.

This is why you negotiate the OTD price, not add Ons. I got my 2020 for about 5K (OTD) under original MSRP and they included doc fees and an undercoat "spray." Did not care because of the OTD price. This was after talking with 10+ dealers; the one I chose was lowest by 4K. Always remember you have the power because you have the money, people forget that.

In Mississippi the law is written that a doc fee MAY be charged but IS NOT REQUIRED BY LAW. Dealer would say it was required. The state ended up requiring a disclaimer attached to the contract that it was not required because of these practices.

During January of 2021 before this rip-off dealer fees, I got a 55k MDX for 37, 900 out of the door. They were desperate and I told the dealer I am not paying for these markups… you have to put these guys in their place and never ever settled for things you don’t want or I am walking out and not waste anymore time with them. My wife thought I was crazy but I stuck to my believes.

It should be illegal for a dealer to add accessories to a new car.

I am probably one of the biggest Honda fans out there (Atleast I was 6 months ago). I owned the last gen Type R and sold it for $2000 less than I bought it for 3 years ago. I paid MSRP in 2019. I was dead set on buying the new 2023 Type R. Now? Dealers want $10, 000-25, 000 over MSRP between markups & add ons. I’ve become so frustrated with the insane price gouging I went over to BMW and put a deposit down on a new M2. For basically the same money, you get a LOT more car. The cars can be great but dealership loyalty and ethics matter. Even though I’ve been seeing markups drop on Civic Type R’s & Integra Type S that are sitting on dealer lots, I just won’t do business with them. It’s ruined the reputation of the car from being one of the best driver’s cars, to being “the markup car.”

The Honda car configurator says that "wheel locks, mud guards, trunk tray" is a $323 add on. My local dealer put $1700 as the cost!!! No way I'll pay that

Man, I hate that buying a car, new or used, feels like six-nine month of war planning. You guys are great.

Do as Ray and Zach and Brandon do. Go to dealerships on Sundays to examine the stickers. If they're charging fees, don't do business with them. We can bemoan all these fees but they don't work and the dealers don't collect them if someone doesn't pay them - aka buy the car.

Looked at a new Pilot. MSRP 53K. Tried to get the internet price and spoke to a salesman; he was clueless, it added 5 k. Told them no and kept bugging me. I unsubscribed and then a different person called me. I explained it was too much and no deal. Called me again. Told them to F%$K off and I'm not dealing with Shottenkirk Honda.

I just traded in my 5 year old Honda accord and had Extended warranty I purchased a 2024 CR-V and I cashed out my extended warrenty on my 2018 Accord and received $900 back. Just wanted you to bring this up for trading in cars to let your customers know to cash out if the trade in or sale their cars or they are stolen.

Went to the Honda dealer for a 10, 000 mile service on my 2022 Honda Passport. The dealer service department advised an oil and filter change, rear differential fluid change, air filter change, top off window wiper fluid fill, vacuum the floor, all for $449 dollars. I instead went to ‘Jiffy Lube’ and was charged $250 dollars for the same service. 🤷🏼🤔🙄
