In this video I show you how I make a fun quilted tote bag using jelly roll strips but you can also use fabric scraps.

Supplies to make the bag like I did:
8 jelly roll strips
Batting approximately 43” W x 18” H
2 pieces lining fabric cut to 18”W x 16”H fused with SF102
1 yard interfacing for the lining, I used SF101
1.25 yards webbing

Once you quilt the exterior, trim it down into 2 pieces 18” W x 16” H

You cracked me up when laying out the strips. “I’m not going to overthink it” while still over thinking it. That is

Love this simple and easy tutorial. I usually leave an opening at the top for a seamless join and I'd do 2 lines of stitches at the top edge close.

i followed your lead on making this tote. i had leftover fabric that i made into strips and it turned out really nice i must say. i didn't line mine because i didn't have any whole fabric so i used woven interfacing. i ordered a jelly roll so i want do this one again.

I really enjoy your tutorials. I like how you show us your thought process and how you include any goofs and don’t edit them out! Your bags are great and I can’t wait to make this one. Thanks!

Great tutorial. Was able to pause and follow along step by step. So thrilled with the results … don’t seem to be able to share a pic but honestly one minor hiccup and a wandering seam in my quilting but overall am thrilled with the results. Thank you! 😊

I like to tack my lining down so it stays together when you wash it. I do my outer bag right sides together, inner bag right sides together, then box my corners using the triangle method with my fingers, sew straight across, then sew the lining at the triangle. Because you're going to do a topstitch, I just make the bag like it's already done, then fold my tops in with the handles in between the 2 layers. I use a double needle for the topstitching with a SS stitch (not zig zag or you'll break both needles but back and forth) so you can have up to 3 different colors of thread if you wanted. This way I can have a bunch of bags ready that all I have to do is the top portion. No guessing if the handles are twisted because you can see them. Hope that helps.

I’ve made heaps of bags in that pattern and I never use spray glue on them, I just sew the strips on the batting which quilts at the same time. Sometimes I add a bit more quilting, but not always.
