In this video, we show how vector bundles give examples of coherent sheaves called locally free sheaves. In fact, in some ways, the notion of coherent sheaves can be thought of as a generalisation of vector bundles which allows you to simultaneously study subvarieties via their structure sheaves. The category of coherent sheaves thus allows one to relate the study of vector bundles and subvarieties in a useful way.
