What Is The Jet Stream?

Jet streams are strong currents of air that separate hot and cold air. Located about 9 miles in the air and travelling on average at 110 mph, jet streams act as the interstate for weather systems. Jet streams get more active during the fall, winter and spring seasons. This is the reason for large temperatures swings and major winter and severe storms.
