You could already see the platform before the trick started, it was in the first few seconds of him walking up to it that the light reflected differently from the pool and the platform. If you were a tight rope walker, you could just have a narrow beam and walk across that, once across it could have been submerged and get a real spector to try and walk across and plunge into the pool.

I’m sure if innocent spectators seen a man dressed like this with a mask on in the middle of summer randomly come to a pool and start walking on water, everybody would either scream or run to go grab their cell phone to record it so it can be all over the news and social media lol
