Please, stop calling Mint users newbies. I've used Mint now for about 8 years, use it in running my small company as well as in private use. The last Windows version I used was XP. I played with other distributions before but after Mint there was no way back. (Naturally everything has developed since, Mint included). Mint is perfect for 99 % of the users right out of the box. Not everybody aspires to be a tech-wanker but rather get things done. Other than that a good video for newbies.

Great video Chris. I've been on Linux mint for almost 6 months now and this made me delve deeper into my config. I tend to favour the command line where I can and have been pretty much running with default desktop settings.

The best thing I got out of this video is that there are better ways of accessing open apps and workspaces than using hot corners which I have now disabled.

After watching a lot of your video's, I have bit the bullet and fully installed linux mint onto a spare hard drive I have and have it in priority boot. Going to watch all of these videos and force myself to learn it, thank you for these great resources!

Chris, I've just installed mint along side windows graphics, speed and the overall look and feel of it is amazing. Yes It's going to take some getting used to but I am impressed. Thank you for your simple, plain and accurate instructions.

Good work, Chris. Keep em coming.
If I may, on the next one, could we touch on the update manager, and the selection and addition and management of newer kernels? The way Mint do this, is brilliant. It's one of the things I prefer about Mint to almost any other distribution. They make it easy and simple and relatively bullet-proof.

I love mint, I just switched to Majaro the other day having given Arch a try and quickly realizing I didn't like configuring everything. But Mint really is one of the best, especially when you consider you could pretty much use the entire system without ever opening a terminal if you really wanted to.

Oh wow, thanks for the video! I've used Linux in the past (Ubuntu) but that's many years ago now. I've recently started to pick up more of an interest for Linux again, and I've been looking for a distro to install on my PC. Linux Mint is the one that caught my interest, however I always though it looked super ugly in the online reviews/screenshots I've seen, so that kinda made me hold back on it. I had no idea it was this easy to customize and make look good. Thank you!

Some have said of Mint, "It looks like Windows, " as if that were something bad. First point is that many DEs are configurable. But my second point is the main one: Like many other things the surface appearance is least important. It is the intent of the policies and how they are implemented that are really important. In this regard Linux Mint stands above Windows as a mountain stands above a cesspit. To be influenced by appearance only is the mark of a shallow mind, and the only reason to adopt such a pose would be as part of some deep strategy -- which could hardy apply here. End Rant.

I love this distro, I've been using it for 3 years in dualboot with windows but on januanry decided to use only linux mint and it's been great so far
some protips for those new to linux mint(I think Chris will eventually talk about but this but if not here you go)
1.- you can delete items you dont want in the panel by simply hiting right click and "remove"
2.- you can do an overview of the apps youre using in a particular workspace by using ctrl +alt + down arrow, to return just press the windows key (superkey)
3.- Also you can see an overview of all the workspaces by pressing crtl + alt + up key

for even more information about Linux mint there's a electronic magazine called "linux mint for beginners" where you can learn all about it
