This is why I grew up speaking Dutch and not German (or Russian). A pivotal battle not only for Britain but for the entire world.

I say this from India (which was a part of the empire at the time)

The British people exemplified the very best quality possible of a people in standing up to such monstrous tyranny against all odds. Alone. But the British kept keeping the chin up, firm and fighting on against all odds.

Winston Churchill was the exemplary leader who has such strength of character to stand and fight when the odds were the bleakest and in spite of his own party had lost hope and wanted to negotiate for peace.

Whatever Churchill felt about India I dont hold against him. he was a loyal subject and minister of British Empire and such was its policy. He is to be admired for his leadership and knowledge and courage and conviction. He saved western civilization.

The brave British lads on land air and sea who fought against all odds and fought with tenacity and courage...I salute them all. Bless them.

I am proud my ancestors fought as part of the British empire in its finest hour.

Pity they don't make speeches like this anymore. I love the way Churchill spoke.

"And the life of the world can move forward into broad, sunlit uplands." I used the quote for a history paper in my senior year of college. That was probably my finest hour.

BTW, God bless the RAF and the British people for hanging on. History would have taken a very different turn if they had failed and capitulated to Nazi fascism.

Spoken like a true leader, not like the clowns we see everywhere in power nowadays

To this day, its still our finest hour. The few who fought overwhelming odds, outnumbered 4 - 5 - 6 to one powered by the words of Churchill was enough to throw back a very dark age.

80 years on there is still no greater memory to invoke to power our nation forward than by standing as best we can on the shoulders of all those great men who, by committing themselves to the impossible, achieved the impossible.

When my time comes, I'll shake the hand of every one of them.

This island is so divided by ethnic religious and ideological lines now, it would be impossible even for Winston Churchill to rally the people to such a cause.
The Russian invasion of Ukraine is analogous the the Nazi attack on Poland. And all I have seen is endless whining about ‘muh tax money’ and pro Russian comments from non Anglo British citizens especially south East Asians and Africans.

My patriotism died long ago, our culture is being extinguished, our royal family is considered ‘terribly white’, statues of the great Churchill being defaced, our ancestors gave their lives in vain to protect these lands from a foreign invasion, thanks to the ‘cultural enrichment’ we were all told we so desperately needed, this country is but a mere shell of its former self.

As a boy in school I was assigned to write a short paper about Winston Churchill. I knew almost nothing about him and protested to my grandfather, “why do I have learn about this old man?” “So you don’t have to learn to goose step”, was the immediate reply.

My great grandfather flew 40 missions over Germany for the RAF, flew a Lancaster bomber. Such a lovey caring man and never liked speaking about the war. It truly was their finest hour. Rest In Peace to all the soldiers who fought for our freedom

"Let us therefore brace ourselves to our duty, so bear ourselves, that if the British Empire and its Commonwealths last for a thousand years, men will still say: *This was their finest hour."*

People today don't realize how everyone thought the Germans would invade England at that time. Churchill was EXACTLY the man the nation needed at that time. Anyone would doesn't feel their pulse quicken in parts of this speech has no soul, considering it played a direct part in the defeat of fascism. "There are no good wars, " people say. Tell that to the people of Europe who were saved by this man and the nation he led, along with the other allied nations.
