Richard Burton was a tremendous actor. He once told how he learned to project his voice by going to the seaside where he recited Shakespeare over the sound of waves crashing . There was nobody quite like him.

Just a reminder that this (and the original 1939 film) is only the first half of the book. There is much more to this story. . . . THANKS for posting!

Rosemary Harris, an accomplished English actress and the mother of Jennifer Ehle, who played Elizabeth Bennett opposite Colin Firth in Pride and Prejudice. Love this! Thank you!

Thank you for the DuPont Show of the Month production of Wuthering Heights with a young (and dynamic) Richard Burton from the Spring of 1958 on CBS-TV. It's always nice to see classic live television shows like this to make one appreciate the level of acting that previous generations were exposed to years before. It was well produced and professionally done. Not to say that today's movies and TV shows cannot be, but with only three major networks at the time, such productions didn't suffer from being obsolete (there was no cable/satellite back then creating abundant channels). Therefore, competition between ABC, NBC, CBS, and before 1956, DuMont, was less, propelling higher quality acting, writing, and producing.

Better than a film. It's tv theatre & it involves you more than today's TV. It probably was live as well.

“I think I’ve broken my ankle”. 26:02 She should have said “twisted”. I think if she’d broken it, she wouldn’t be sitting there quietly on the sofa!

The original text was a bit spicy and moraley shocking even for the 1950's. Having seen the 1939 film.. Then reading the book, the only production that ever came close to the book was a 1970s version by the BBC.... Telling people who've never read the book, that after Cathy dies, heathclif digs her body up for one last look. 😮😅.. Would make a fantastic grand opera. I think they tried it as a musical but it was a flop.
