My Cousin Rachel is a 1952 American romantic mystery film directed by Henry Koster and starring Olivia de Havilland, Richard Burton, Audrey Dalton, Ronald Squire, George Dolenz and John Sutton. The film is based on the 1951 novel of the same title by Daphne du Maurier.

Twentieth Century-Fox obtained the rights to film the novel, with Burton's agreeing to star in a U.S. film for the first time. Production was troubled when du Maurier and original director George Cukor were dissatisfied with the adaptation, causing Cukor to leave the project.

My Cousin Rachel received some positive reviews upon its initial release, including for Burton's performance. It was nominated for four Academy Awards, and Burton won a Golden Globe for New Star of the Year.

The story was remade My Cousin Rachel in 2017 starring Rachel Weisz and Sam Claflin.

Gosh, how gorgeous Richard Burton was when he was young! A shame this version was not made in colour, but it’s otherwise excellent.

A handsome Richard Burton. A beautiful Olivia de Havilland. I like this version but I also like the modern version.

I think this is a favourite movie starring Richard Burton he appears quite young in this film. He plays the part very well and so does Olivia de Haviland

Much better than the modern one. Script is faithful and coherent. My, Burton is not just a pretty face....Olivia doesn't have the vulnerable side of feminine that Weiss has, but still plays the role well.

The Academy got it wrong big time with this film. How on Earth did Richard Burton only receive an Oscar nomination for best supporting actor when he's virtually in every scene? It makes absolutely no sense.

Olivia De Havilland was always so warm and real, right up until her death in 2020 at the age of 104! (Yes. One hundred and four.) She was interviewed on TCM at around 100 years old, and she was as gracious and beautiful as ever.

I always thought that Merle Oberon was her sister, but actually it was Joan Fontaine, although I see no resemblance at all. Fontaine is their mother's maiden name. It was then a common thing for actors with similar names to chose another one, to differenciate themselves.

RIP dear Olivia and Joan. You so warmed our hearts. ❤❤❤
