Patients suffering from cryptogenic strokes are often very young and it is critically important to find a management strategy that prevents their recurrence. S. Wilson and M. Behan discuss current evidence looking at device closure vs. medical therapy. What do recent trials demonstrate in terms of complications such as atrial fibrillation? Are their specific patients that benefit from a device approach or should all patients be considered for this treatment? What would be the future role of a “Heart and Brain” team….and why would this approach be needed? Follow the evolution in our management of these patients in this discussion.
