I’m in Lviv now for past week. I was in Nikolaev before that. The mayor of Nikolaev asked everyone to stock up on food and be prepared. Our friends left. My sister in law and nieces moved into deep remote village where my mother in a law lives and they have a stockpile of food. My wife is still stuck in Crimea from a business trip where she was held at the border after testing positive for coronavirus. I thought about going to Chernotvsi in 2 weeks but still haven’t decided if we will fly my wife directly to Romania or Poland and we will stay there together for the time being. I hope the tension blows over soon. I am wary about taking any flights over Ukrainian mainland now especially considering what happened with Malaysian airliner

Good decision Conor to be close to the Romanian border. The US said they disputed that troops had been withdrawn by Putin. Indeed they seemed pretty convinced that numbers had increased. And the military operations in Belarus are overrunning. And Putin is now saying that there are provocations. He is desperately for a false flag to give him a reason to invade. Your analogy is pretty good however I'd point out and I'm sure you'd agree that relying on going to the airport and catching a flight to evacuate is a risky strategy. IF Russia does decide to escalate and chooses a full invasion as opposed to further incursions in Donbas and Luhansk or other more limited options then airports would be one of the first targets with long range fires and other means.

Airlines are also already cancelling flights to Kyiv.

There's another Westerner in Kyiv (an American) who is very naive, maybe you know who I'm referring to.

As you're in Chernivtsi I imagine your egress options are relatively easier & the threat isn't as high.

Final thing: Yourself and others in Ukraine mention the media/politicians but no one mentions the satellite images and open source intelligence (OSINT) by distinguished Russian military analysts. That body of evidence (when following reputable sources of course) doesn't lie. This current buildup is unprecedented.
