Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder

Diagnostic Criteria
A pervasive pattern of preoccupation with orderliness, perfectionism, and mental and
interpersonal control, at the expense of flexibility, openness, and efficiency,
beginning by early adulthood and present in a variety of contexts, as indicated by
four (or more) of the following:
1. Is preoccupied with details, rules, lists, order, organization, or schedules to the
extent that the major point of the activity is lost.
2. Shows perfectionism that interferes with task completion (e.g., is unable to
complete a project because his or her own overly strict standards are not met).
3. Is excessively devoted to work and productivity to the exclusion of leisure
activities and friendships (not accounted for by obvious economic necessity).
4. Is overconscientious, scrupulous, and inflexible about matters of morality, ethics,
or values (not accounted for by cultural or religious identification).

5. Is unable to discard worn-out or worthless objects even when they have no
sentimental value.
6. Is reluctant to delegate tasks or to work with others unless they submit to exactly
his or her way of doing things.
7. Adopts a miserly spending style toward both self and others; money is viewed as
something to be hoarded for future catastrophes.
8. Shows rigidity and stubbornness.

Ocd has an obsession which can be any bad thought, then compulsions that you have to do to prevent said thoughts for it not to happen. If you don’t do the compulsions, you have a panic attack. If you do the compulsions, you still have a panic attack and that happens every few hours or every second depending on how severe it is. You just constantly live in agony. It is NOT perfectionism.

Correct me if I'm wrong, please. It sounds as if Dr. Tracey said people with OCD had a more difficult situation than those with OCPD. It's true that some OCDP characteristics are more socially acceptable, but persons with OCPD or OCD can both develop very severe problems in their lives. We can't say one is worse than the other.

People with OCPD (in my experience) also don’t really think there is anything wrong with the way they do things. They also don’t tend to feel guilty/bad about inconveniencing others to accommodate them. I’m currently living with a lady with OCPD. It is extremely difficult and stressful. She is disabled and after work, I will have another couple of hours doing things for her which must be done her way. Many of these tasks are unnecessary (fixing rugs and blinds to be perfectly straight, daily vacuuming, etc.). She has driven away most of her friends and family, and I will be leaving soon as well to save my sanity.

It’s really sad as she is a good person underneath, but her OCPD makes her very anxious, depressed, and unkind.

Sad that people will not nind if you are ill when it's beneficial for them

i know i have ocd but i’m too scared to ask my parents for a diagnosis. Does anyone know how I can go about asking them? The more i think about my early childhood the more i notice all the compulsions i had.

I argue that OCPD is so myopic and self-centered that it misses the mark of excellence. But an OCPD person can only see their own limited view of the world, and attempt to discard the excellent work of others because it conflicts with the inner rules created to soothe the OCPD person's compulsion to be in control.

You tell it so well. Do you have a long video? 🥰

I have been diagnosed with OCD and have some traits of OCPD but I don't think I really have either. OCPD does have a lot to do with perfectionism which is a problem for me. But other parts don't fit.

Does everything have to be a disorder? Sometimes I wonder what normal is anymore and if different is ok without it being labeled a disorder. That’s such a powerful word that I’m sure has a psychological effect on people’s belief about themselves. Just my 2 cents.

This video said basically nothing.
These shorts are mostly worthless. Unfortunately, YouTube is greedily forcing creators to make them.

OCPD can cause bigger problems for family members. I've been in physical fights with a family member who lost us 15 years and a million.

I think you should have actually stated what “OCPD” stands for. I read a lot about mental health online, but I’ve never heard of this before. I’m assuming obsessive compulsive personality disorder, I will have to Google it after this video, but my point is that you could have stated at least once what OCPD even is, especially if this is supposed to be an educational short. And if you’re using it as click bait to go watch the full video and find out, that did not work for me, just some constructive criticism. I will just Google it and go about my day, just wanted to let you know that being intentionally vague could hurt your channel instead of helping. ❤

It must be missing micronutrients. Magnesium, B1 and others. Dr. Jockers has a nice writing.
