This is because he was SKILLED, and not just athletic. And when he was younger, he still did these things. Being athletic is just an advantage.

I'll be the first to admit that I idolized MJ as a basketball player!
I once had a conversation with a very good friend. In this conversation he asked me, among other things:
Which MJ do you like best, the MJ of the 80s, the MJ of the 90s or the Wizard MJ.
My answer came like a pistol shot: The Wizard MJ.
He asked: Why?
The way he played was breathtaking. Like a father who teaches his children how to do it. Not explosive, not eccentric, but smooth and without the need to be the best.
He then said. If you compare the three MJ's how would you do it.
I had to think about it for a long time. I said then MJ was like a painter.
The 80s MJ painted blurred transitions with bright colors, no clear edges, as was the case in Expressionism.
The 90s MJ painted like baroque painters, clear choice of colors and sometimes bright colors if they could be introduced. But always subordinate to the goal of showing a clear picture.
The Wizard MJ was like a Japanese master painter painting his last picture of his favorite fish, mountain or river. It's no longer just about the painting itself, but about doing it so that others can see how wonderful this fish, Mountain, river or whatever is.

People just don’t know what they missed out on not witnessing the greatness of MJ.

At the all-star break in that first season back with the Wizards, Jordan was in the MVP discussion. Many forget that fact... then he hurt his knee 🤷‍♂️

Before MJ hurt his knee that first season the Wizards were in 2nd or 3rd place in the East and MJ was on a hot streak averaging 27 plus the last 10 games pre All ⭐ break 💯

Everyone talks about the 2 year break coming back winning 3 in a row, but taking off 3 years coming back damn near 40 years old n dropping 20ppg is crazy. I always say if he didn't take off those 2 years n played 3-4 more seasons after the 6th ring he would've ended with around 40, 000-45, 000 points.

And every defender was playing Mike hard too. Just speaks to his greatness that even at damn near 40 the young guys knew they couldn’t take the night off against MJ.

He had "court savy". A master at work. His numbers weren't bad either. On one leg.

Mike was just having fun when he went to the Wizards and helping the younger guys mentoring.

MJ was insane. Insaw him in the early 90s, mid-late 90s, and 2000. I agree with Sheed, Wizards Jordan was sharp, slower, and methodical. He was very much the same killer, but his body wasn't able to hold up.

Its a lot of moves with counter moves, a lot more adaptation. Dude was dangerous. You put this Jordan in 34 year old Jordans body and it's 40 a night in the 90s.

I've heard football players, especially receivers, speak on getting slower in their 30s but being able to play faster because the experience allows them to play with no wasted motion.
