A lot of people don't realize this but in 01-02 season, MJ was averaging 24 points a game before he had a knee surgery, and 25 a game before busting his knee (he played 7 games on a busted knee). Even when everyone thought he was done for the season, MJ came back after the surgery, although his season was eventually cut short.
Wizards were 26-20 up until the injury, which means they were on pace to win 47 games if MJ hadn't been sidelined. And jordan's game had been progressively improving up until that point: for the 10 games leading up to the injury, he averaged 29!!
Even with the injury, wizards vastly improved with his presence. Before MJ, they posted a record of 19 wins. Washington won 37 games for both seasons Jordan was with them. And they won just 25 games after he was gone.
Considering the injury in 02 gave MJ chronic knee problems, it's very reasonable to believe that Washington would've made the postseason both 02 and 03, given that they just missed it both seasons. And jordan would've averaged at least 25 in 02.
Whats more incredible is that MJ played all 82 games for 37 mpg on a busted knee AT AGE 40!! Who does that? I mean who friggin does that? MJ was the GOAT, freak of nature athlete, Mr.fundamental but above all, he was a warrior.

Jordan in his 2 seasons with the Wizards was 67-75. His last year, he played 30 games at the age of 40. At 40, he averaged 22.4 points, 7.2 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 1.3 steals, 46.2% FG, 39.9 minutes played. Still the only 40-year-old to score 40+ in a game. He had 3 games as a 40-year-old where he played over 50 minutes. Incredible.

A 40 years old dude with no knees still catching lobs, making no step vertical dunks and putting Tim Duncan in a poster??? MJ was just a freak off nature in every sense.

At 40 still schooling the people in their 20. Amazing.

As MJ aged his dunks became more conservative. That’s called intelligence. As we get older, some of us get wise or wiser.

Watching his greatness almost brought tears to my eyes. I get emotional cus being a huge fan of the game i remember all these games and watching him still school players like he was in his 20's. No one will ever surpass his greatness!

Crazy to think even when Wizards were the away team the home crowd’s cheering on MJ. What a legend.

Look at not only the dunks, but the steals he's getting at 40!!

Most of those dunks came off of steals. Jordan was still great at any age. And Jermaine O'Neal gets what he deserves for screwing up the 2003 all star game. True NBA fans know what I'm talking bout.

I wish I could have dunked like this at any age of my life.

MJ was still a very good player with the Wizards. You can tell he didn't have the hops anymore but still had the quickness. He was always a very smart player.

Number two I saw in person! It was a baseline drive and a jam on Jermaine O'Neal in Washington DC! IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN AN AND1! Brings back chills just thinking about that game; seeing him in person, giving his all as he always does---- he had such a great night that night! like 42 points, 12 rebounds, five assists and I think like about four steals! It was worth every penny we paid to see him! MJ23 the GOAT! Still getting it done as a Wizard even though he was up in age! THIS GUY IS THE BEST EVER!!! 🐐💕

Anyone else kept rewinding each play just to relive greatness all over again? I wish I could go back in time.
